As I send out most information by email it is important that I have an email address that will get information to you. Please could you check that I have the correct email address for you before you leave the first training session. I also send out information regarding singing-related activities and opportunities that may be of interest to you. Who should take part? Any group of KS2 children at your school can take part in the Sing Together Project. We have choirs, (auditioned and non-auditioned), classes or year groups taking part. We can accommodate approximately 30 children from each school. This number is determined by the size of the stage at King Georges Hall. Repertoire and conducting The repertoire is chosen to be balanced musically and technically whilst providing interest and being age- appropriate for KS2 children. If you would like to conduct any of the songs at the concert, please feel free to put yourself forward. We will help you all the way! Signed song and Teaching Notes The signed song this year is Run with your Heart and the signing has again been devised by Paul Whittaker, OBE. Paul has done all of our other songs and it is a liguistic translation rather than literal. We also have actions this year for the Rattlesnake Shake. Videos are available on the website and in the dropbox. The Teaching Notes have been complied by Andy Brooke, an experienced music teacher and musician. Music booklet and song parts We have provided more substantial booklets this year with the generous support of the Gubey Foundation. We have also made the music available in other formats so you could display the songs on your whiteboards and enable the children to start becoming familiar with written music. Words to the songs are provided by email, dropbox and on the website. The allocation of top and lower parts are alternated to give experience of both parts to children. Concert Details Weekday concerts start with a rehearsal at 2pm and the concerts start at 6pm. They will finish around 7.10pm. Weekend concerts start with a rehearsal at 1pm and the concert starts at 5pm. This will finish around 6.10pm. Further details of precise start time for your group will be given nearer the time. An area in the Windsor suite will be allocated to your school for eating a light snack in between the rehearsal and the concert. Full school uniform or choir outfit should be worn. Tickets for the Concerts in March Tickets are available through the King George’s Hall box office on 0844 847 1664 or online at www.kinggeorgeshall.com They will be on sale from Monday 22nd January 2018. Accompanying adults from school do need a ticket but they are free of charge. Please let me know how many you need nearer the time. If you are on stage, you do not need a ticket. We recommend one adult per school on stage unless there are particular reasons why more adults need to be on stage. Tickets for staff to be picked up from the box office on the day. One additional free ticket is available for your Head teacher/Governor etc. please let me know if you would like this ticket. Performance and seating and pick up points Some lighting effects will be used. Presently this is planned to be colour changes and a snowfall light effect. A 4-piece band (piano, bass and drums) will accompany the children. All children will be on the stage as we feel this is more inclusive, however, this does mean that some will be on raked seating at the back while others will be sitting on the stage floor and standing on a level to sing. You will be able to move children around so they all can be seen. If you are on the floor area, it is advisable that parents are in the balcony so they can see their children. Sighting is generally good in the hall. We have arranged for as much raked seating as possible in the Hall for the audience so they can see their children. You also have the seating plan for the stage so you can tell parents where your school will be positioned. We are generally able to have 30 children per school however some schools bring fewer so there will be space for more from other schools. If you want to bring more children, please let me know as soon as possible. Teachers are responsible for dispersal of pupils at the end of the concert. You will be given a pick-up point for your school which you can tell parents – either KGH main hall or from the Windsor Suite. Children being collected from the KGH main stage area are able to leave coats and bags in various rooms back stage. We will show you these on the day. Child licence information Please remember to provide your child licensing information (names and DOB) to me or to your LEA by 31st Jan in order that we can apply for a licence to perform the Sing Together concerts. Please speak to me if you have any concerns about this. What to do with the music - concerts etc Please feel free to do your own concert with the music we provide. You may like to teach different members of staff the ‘other’ part and have a staff and children’s choir. Or encourage staff to take part in the teacher’s song at the concert. There is room for everyone to join in. If you would like additional support in forming a staff choir or putting on a concert etc, please ask for help! Teacher’s Concert in the Cathedral, 19 January 2018 We are again having a teacher’s concert on 19 January 2018. It will be held in the Cathedral and will be preceded by the regular training session and a full rehearsal. This concert is being organised to show what a fabulous job you are all doing of keeping music alive in schools. We will invite local dignitaries, MPs, School Governors and anyone else you can think of that should be invited. All teachers /teaching assistants from all our Sing Together schools are welcome to attend and will be able to learn the music beforehand by listening to the backing tracks and being taught by you! We will be singing all the material from the Sing Together Concert.
