Western Corridor Planning Strategy
NEWCASTLE- LAKE MACQUARIE WESTERN CORRIDOR PLANNING STRATEGY The Lower Hunter Regional Strategy: 2006–2031 (Department of Planning 2006) provides the land use planning framework to guide sustainable growth in the region over the next 25 years. It recognises the lands in the Newcastle–Lake Macquarie western corridor as proposed urban, employment and environmental conservation lands. This corridor covers land from Beresfield to Killingworth, including Minmi, Cameron Park, West Wallsend and Edgeworth (See Map 1, Page 2). The Newcastle–Lake Macquarie Western Corridor Planning Strategy identifies key planning principles and known infrastructure requirements that will guide future urban expansion and conservation in the western corridor. The planning principles take into consideration proximity to existing residential areas and employment lands, site constraints, major transport linkages and regional and local conservation corridors. The planning principles and infrastructure requirements provide the key considerations in the preparation of environmental studies that accompany rezoning proposals. This planning strategy should also assist councils, landowners and developers in coordinating urban structure elements and infrastructure for sites. Development projections The anticipated development projection for the western corridor is 8000 dwellings after taking into consideration site constraints. This represents a potential dwelling yield of around eight dwellings per hectare. This planning strategy recognises a potential 1500 hectares of employment lands in the north (Black Hill) and south (West Wallsend and Killingworth) of the corridor that will provide additional employment opportunities to further strengthen the regional economy. The indicative preferred land uses identified CONTENTS in Map 4 are generally consistent with the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy. Rezoning proposals will be assessed to determine whether the land is suitable for development. -

M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace Project update – Environmental Impact Statement July 2021 You are invited to make a submission on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The Australian and NSW governments have committed $2 billion to deliver the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace and Hexham Straight projects. The extension would boost the regional economy and improve connectivity, road transport eciency and safety for local and interstate motorists. The project addresses a key national motorway ‘missing link’ between Sydney and Brisbane as the existing M1 Pacific Motorway, New England Highway and Pacific Highway carry some of the highest trac volumes across the Hunter. Better movement of Once complete, the extension would remove up to 25,000 vehicles a day from key congestion and freight merge points along this corridor and would help keep freight, commuters and tourists moving. The project includes 15 kilometres of dual carriageway and provides motorway access from the existing road network from four new Saving motorists interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago and up to Raymond Terrace. 9 minutes during peak time The project also includes a 2.6 kilometre viaduct over the Hunter River and floodplain, the Main North Rail Line, and the New England Highway. Executive Summary The United mine and Wambo mine are neighbouring existing coal mining operations situated approximately 16 kilometres (km) west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales (NSW). The two mines have formed a Joint Venture and propose to develop the United Wambo Open Cut Coal Mine Project (the Project) that combines the existing open cut operations at Wambo with a proposed new open cut coal mine at United. The Project includes open cut mining operations in two areas for a period of approximately 23 years; the proposed United Open Cut and modified operations in the approved Wambo Open Cut. The Project is anticipated to deliver up to 10 million tonnes per annum of run-of-mine coal production from the combined open cut operations. The existing mining operations currently store and use a range of hazardous materials, including explosives. -

To the householder AUGUST 2012 HUNTER EXPresswaY Hunter Expressway The $1.7 billion Hunter Expressway project is jointly funded, with the Australian Government providing $1.5 billion and the NSW Government contributing up to $200 million. This letter provides an update on the construction and the upcoming work for the next three months along the 40 kilometre project. Eastern section – F3 Freeway to Kurri Kurri Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) formed an alliance with Thiess, Parsons Brinckerhoff and Hyder Consulting to construct the 13 kilometre section of the project from the F3 Freeway to Kurri Kurri. Construction is continuing to progress across the eastern section of the project. The Alliance has moved more than 1.8 million cubic metres of material since construction started in August 2010. The NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan was released in December 2012 to provide a comprehensive blueprint for the future, complete with more than 220 short, medium and long term actions. To support the Master Plan, we recognise that the state’s 10 regional centres have more specific local transport needs and priorities which should be considered and planned for.
