press information Press info Pitztal summer 2021 Imposing peaks, idyllic mountain lakes and picture-perfect alpine pastures: The Pitztal is one of the most beautiful side valleys in the Eastern Alps. And even in summer one can dive into the world of perpetual ice on Tyrol's highest glacier. Pure nature: holiday bliss in the Pitztal It's almost another world - the Pitztal, hidden between the Ötztal and Kaunertal valleys. A single road leads up to it. To the left and to the right the mountains rise steeply, impressive waterfalls captivate the view. One travels through beautiful villages with churches, inns and traditional farmhouses. 40 kilometres, then it's over. If you want to go even further, take the mountain railways and you'll find yourself at the highest retreat in all of Austria. It is called "Das 3440" - and indicates the exact altitude on the roof of Tyrol. The panorama is incredible. From the Zugspitze to the Dolomites or the Ortler massif, everything seems to be at your feet. How about a little glacier safari alongside experienced guides? During the hike over ice and snow holidaymakers learn interesting background information and can even be abseiled into a crevasse if they wish. An unforgettable experience offered during the summer months. Those who prefer to travel without a guide can visit the largest natural mountain lake in Austria. Lake Rifflsee, which shimmers in different shades of blue and green depending on the sun’s rays, is located at 2232 meters. It lies in the middle of the ski area of the same name and can be easily reached by gondola. Guests experience the magical atmosphere up here from a very special perspective: Simply check in on the raft. It can accommodate up to 60 people and glides almost silently with the help of an electric motor. The raft trip takes approximately 45 minutes. If you want to hike back down into the valley you walk past blooming alpine roses. Just before the finish, the Taschachalm entices with Tyrolean delicacies – and delicious cheese from its own dairy. Everywhere in the Pitztal one meets happy cows grazing in front of real picture-perfect pastures. But the shepherds on the Tanzalm, which is located at 2000 meters on the Hochzeiger, have a very special twist: They simply flip the switch and the fresh milk flows directly into the valley to the collection point in the village Jerzens. This works via an underground pipeline that the clever farmers of the Pitztal installed more than 60 years ago. Simply ask if a look behind the scenes is possible – and otherwise enjoy the fantastic view that extends from the Kaunergratgruppe over the Arlberg to the Lechtal Alps. There are also numerous hiking trails in the Hochzeiger area, where you can cover the first altitude metres either relaxed with the cable cars or ambitious on foot. A very special one leads over to the protected Riegetal, where the enchanted Großsee hides. But beware: Surefootedness is absolutely necessary – the access is via a path secured with steel chains. Those who are on the way to the Hochzeiger should definitely take a deep breath. After all, one of the most beautiful pine forests in Tyrol thrives here. Enjoy with all your senses?
