IN GEAR December 2018 / January 2019 cal4wheel.com 3 e are entering our 60th year of operation at the start of the new year. Not many organizations reach this milestone, and it's an Waccomplishment we should all be proud of. Our mission then is the same as it is now: to preserve our access to public lands, provide family-oriented events, educate wheelers, coordinate with land use agencies and other organizations, perform volunteer activities, donate funds and more. Thanks to all members past and present who have helped us get here. With your support we'll be around for another 60 years! Please be sure to attend our annual Convention in February to help us celebrate this milestone. Shirley Bramham and her committee are planning an extra special event for us in Rancho Cordova. Even the kids are invited. We'll have a hospitality night, vendor and vehicle shows, seminars, conduct a little business, hold elections, honor our outstanding members at the awards banquet, give away the Win-A-Jeep (and other raffle prizes), and generally enjoy an opportunity to see each other again. Info is in this issue. FIVE BUCK WRANGLER

STORY & PHOTOS BY CHRIS COLLARD

For more than 50 years, the California Four Wheel Drive Association (Cal4Wheel) has purchased a Jeep, modified it for real-world travel, and raffled it off for less than the cost of a mac- daddy mocha. The tradition continues this year with a 2018 4-door Jeep JL Wrangler Sport, customized for your favorite backcountry adventure. This year’s five-buck Wrangler received a total makeover by Cloakworks 4x4 in Rancho Cordova, California. After stripping it down they installed Metalcloak rock rails, tire carrier, and bumpers. Up front is a Warn Zeon 10s recovery winch fitted with synthetic rope and a Factor 55 FlatLink. The drivetrain and underbelly are protected by Metalcloak’s heavy-duty skid plate system, and their Overland high-clearance fenders can be found at each corner. The JL rides on a Metalcloak 3.5-inch Game Changer suspension and custom gold 6-Pak shocks, while set of 37-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-terrains and Raceline Combat wheels cap the axles. For a truly unique look they turned to ProWraps for a one-off metal-flake body wrap. The winning ticket will be drawn February 16, 2019 at the Cal4Wheel convention in Rancho Cordova, CA, and you need not be present to win. Runner-up prizes include gear from sPod, PowerTank, Slidesteps, TailGater, and an Atlas II transfer case. Net proceeds go directly towards the fight to keep our public lands open!
