Keep it farmland or let ‘em build? Planning commission hears opposing sides By Bill Howard Two of the agenda items at the February 13 meet- ing of Knoxville-Knox County Planning were very similar, and oh so common: whether to allow land currently zoned as agricultural to be rezoned as residential, and therefore allow developers to build homes, businesses, or other structures. Unsurprisingly, residents in each area weren’t happy with the proposed changes. Scott Davis, representing developers Mesana Investments LLC, requested from the commis- sion such a rezoning for about 44 acres at 7711 Thompson School Road in Commission District 8 in the Corryton area. Mesana wants to build up to five dwelling units per acre on the tract. According to the commission, the request is consistent with the Sector Plan.
