NOTE OF THE NIGHT Home Cooking - The Capitals are set to kick off a five-game home stand – their second longest of the season – tonight against the Dallas Stars. This season, Washington is 3-1-1 at home, and their 4.6 goals per game on home ice ranks first in the NHL, while their 14 goals allowed is the fifth-lowest in the NHL. Additionally, the Capitals have been scoring on 50 percent of their power play opportunities at Arena (10 goals on 20 opportunities), 11.9 percent greater than the , who rank second in the NHL in home power play percentage. Since the 2014-15 season, the Capitals have a record of 115-40-14 at home, ranking first in the NHL both wins and points (244). During that span, the Capitals’ 539 goals for ranks fifth, while their 369 goals against rank first. During that span, Alex Ovechkin’s 102 goals rank first, 14 more than St. Louis Blues forward , who ranks second in home goals since 2014-15. Of Ovechkin’s 617 career goals, 314 have come at home. That’s the 24th-most home goals in NHL history, two behind (23).

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Holtbeast - Since the 2014-15 season, Braden Holtby has posted a record of 86-18-12 with a 2.19 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in 121 games following one day of rest. That's his lowest goals against average and his highest save percentage compared to any other combination of days rest. That's also the lowest goals against average and highest save percentage in the NHL during that span among with at least 100 games played on one day's rest. Ten of the Capitals next 14 games in the month of November will be played on one day's rest.

Great 8 - Alex Ovechkin scored two goals on Thursday against Montreal, his fourth two-goal game this season and the 125th of his career. Ovechkin passed Steve Yzerman (124) for sole possession of 12th place on the NHL's all-time list for multi-goal games. In 1,014 NHL games, Ovechkin has scored 617 goals on 128 goaltenders. This season, Ovechkin leads the Caps with 10 goals and is tied for fourth in the NHL. Since joining the Capitals during the 2005-06 season, Ovechkin has led the Capitals in goals in each season (co- led in 2016-17 with T.J. Oshie, 33 goals each). With 617 career goals, which ranks 17th all-time, Ovechkin sits nine goals shy of passing and (625) for 15th place on the all-time goals list. Additionally, Ovechkin is 61 shots shy of becoming the eighth player in NHL history to reach 5,000 shots. In 2017-18 he led the NHL in goals for the seventh time, finishing with 49, and he’s tied with Bobby Hull for the most times a single player has led the NHL in goals in a season. Ovechkin, the NHL’s active leader in goals as well as the Capitals franchise leader, is the only player in NHL history to win a , an , a , a , a Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and a . Last season Ovechkin became the 20th player in history - and fourth fastest - to reach 600 goals. Among the top 20 goal scorers all-time, Ovechkin's 0.61 goals per game ranks second (: 0.75 goals per game). holds the NHL's all-time record for goals scored (894) and has played 473 more games than Ovechkin. Should Ovechkin play in 473 more games and maintain his 0.61 goals per game rate, Ovechkin is on a 905-goal pace.

Swede Nicky - Nicklas Backstrom suited up for his 826th career game on Thursday against Montreal, passing Michal Pivonka (825) for sixth place on the Capitals' franchise games played list. Backstrom is tied with Evgeny Kuznetsov for the team lead in assists (11) and has 601 career assists. Backstrom currently has 128 more assists than (), who has the second-most assists from the 2006 NHL Draft class. Backstrom set up 52 different teammates on the road to 600 career assists, including 234 helpers on goals by Alex Ovechkin (39 percent). He has only set up two other players at least 40 times (T.J. Oshie: 48; : 40), per NHL Stats. Backstrom followed his 600th assist with his 601st, and with his latest assist, Backstrom passed (600) for the most assists since the 2007-08 season, Backstrom’s first season in the NHL.
