Overview Trinity Mirror PLC is one of the largest multimedia publishers in the UK. It was formed in 1999 by the merger of Trinity PLC and Mirror Group PLC. In November 2015, Trinity Mirror acquired Local World Ltd, thus becoming the largest regional newspaper publisher in the country. Local World was incorporated on 7 January 2013 following the merger between Northcliffe Media and Iliffe News and Media. From 1 January 2016, Local World was brought in to Trinity Mirror’s centralised system of handling complaints. Furthermore, Editorial and Training Policies are now shared.     River Otter Beaver Trial First Annual Report – April 2016 River Otter Beaver Trial First Annual Report April 2016 Beaver traps being moved into place on the River Otter in March 2016 1 River Otter Beaver Trial First Annual Report – April 2016 The River Otter Beaver Trial is led by Devon Wildlife Trust working in partnership with The University of Exeter, the Derek Gow Consultancy, and Clinton Devon Estates. These organisations make up the Project Management Group. Expert independent advice is also provided by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Roisin Campbell-Palmer, Professor John Gurnell, and Gerhard Schwab, an international beaver expert based in Bavaria. The trial operates under a licence issued by Natural England (NE). The licence conditions are monitored by the Licence Group convened by NE that includes Devon Wildlife Trust, Environment Agency, Devon County Council and Clinton Devon Estates. The Steering Group includes many of the same organisations, in addition to a range of other experts and stakeholders including Sir Charlie Burrell, National Farmers Union, CLA, East Devon AONB, Devon LNP, Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, SW Rivers Association, and the Salmon and Trout Association. Funding for the ROBT comes from Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT), the Royal Society for Wildlife Trusts (RSWT), Peter de Haan Charitable Trust, the University of Exeter and from the generous donations from the public made to the Devon Beaver Appeal. DWT is also one of the chosen charities of the Nature Picture Library who have donated a proportion of their profits to the Beaver Appeal, as well as providing images taken by Nick Upton.

The eccentric building Redcliffe Towers (see figure 1), built on the edge of a cliff in Devon, is now a well-known landmark in the town of Paignton. It was constructed by Colonel Robert Smith in 1852-64 after his retirement from the East India Company (EIC) and a sojourn in Italy where he married a French heiress. Smith, an engineer and artist, was not a member of the landed gentry, however, he used his talents to rise through the ranks of the Bengal Army in India, from Cadet to Colonel. Smith left the Company with just an army pension, and it is likely he would have been unable to build Redcliffe Towers without the gain of a considerable inheritance upon the death of his wife. This case study records Robert Smith’s journey to India, to Europe and his final days spent in Devon, where he constructed his fairytale fortress, Redcliffe Towers. In doing so it contributes to the East India Company at Home project by demonstrating the ways in which EIC officials’ engagements with the subcontinent through practices such as drafting, building, painting and drawing, distinctly shaped the British homes they built on their return.

The centre staff, mainly ex-Army personnel (including at least one of whom had worked previously with legendary survival expert Ray Mears) made the Trinity Contingent very welcome.     Candidate Gender and the Quantity of Media Coverage in the 2015 General Election Beata Rek and Justin Murphy Abstract Previous research suggests that lower levels of media attention given to female candidates, relative to male candidates, may contribute to the under- representation of women in national politics. Yet the precise relationship be- tween candidate gender and quantity of media coverage remains unclear, in part because most studies focus on only a few national media outlets. To ad- vance our understanding of this issue, we introduce and analyse a novel dataset measuring the weekly quantity of newspaper coverage given to 72 different can- didates across 34 of the most marginal constituencies in the 2015 UK General Election. The data span 31 local and 6 national newspapers. Surprisingly, re- gression analyses suggest that typical female candidates received more newspa- per coverage than typical male candidates, after controlling for alternative pre- dictors of media attention including party, incumbency, and time until election. Our findings have important implications for debates about gender equality in British politics. In particular, lower levels of media coverage given to female candidates does not appear to be a causal pathway to the under-representation of women in British politics. 1 Introduction Of the information technologies constituting the modern mass media, newspa- pers are one of the most influential (Kahn, 1994; Gerber et al., 2009). In part this is because press transmit a high volume of information, which is relatively easy to acquire by readers (Druckman, 2005). We, like all the park groups in Torbay had a delayed start this spring due to the council requiring a liability insurance policy to be put in place to cover us for unforeseen circumstances. We had previously been covered by the council policy, but unfortunately during these austere times we had to pay for our own cover. After various quotations, Tim Eley, chair of Torbay in Bloom, found us an ideal policy from the R.H.S. which covered all groups who are involved with a Bay Bloom entry. Thankfully Torbay Council have agree to pay this years premium, but future renewals will be funded by the groups themselves.

    24. Marketing Plan – 2005 Overview Over the last three years the Festival has been successful both in challenging the perception that coming to Worthy Farm without a ticket was acceptable, and in changing the behaviour of those who in the past had done just that. The messages about the fence and security have been writ large across the media since 2001 and few of the target population, or of the criminal fraternity who previously preyed on the Festival, can fail to know that getting into Glastonbury Festival without a ticket is not a starter. The hard messages about security have been supported over the years by the overt linkage of the Festival with the work of charities and beneficiaries and this has contributed to making many others think again. The combination of these approaches was called “No ticket, No show” campaign. The Festival will continue to communicate the messages in this campaign, but some resources previously used in this successful campaign can now be redirected to other PR priorities. In 2004, for the first time, significant PR attention was focused on the impact that festival-goers have on the environment of the festival site with some success. Recycling levels increased dramatically and there was no pollution of the watercourses on site. In 2005 the Festival will develop this theme and reinforce the robust environmental messages promoted this year. The Festival will also continue to encourage and promote personal security and crime reduction when on site. The Strategy • The “Green” Message Environmental issues remain a major concern for everybody involved with the Festival.
