Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes it one of the most fascinating cities in Southeast Asia. We will start visit downtown area to see Sule pagoda located on a roundabout in downtown Yangon, Yangon City Hall of Myanmar architectural design, High Court noted for its British colonial architecture including its red-bricked exterior and Mahabandoola Park a public botanical area downtown Yangon. We will continue to visit Bogyoke Market, known for its colonial architecture and inner cobblestone streets, the market is a major tourist destination, dominated by antique, Burmese handicraft and jewellery shops, art galleries, and clothing stores. In the evening, we will visit to the enjoyable experience of the sunset at Shwedagon Pagoda. Its world-renowned golden stupa is the ‘heart’ of Buddhist Myanmar. The Pagoda is believed to be 2,500 years old and the central stupa surrounded by dozens of intricately decorated structures and statues. Stay overnight at hotel in Yangon. Morning breakfast at hotel, transfer to airport for your flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, drive to Amarapura -once a royal city and now it is where the best craftsmen of the country have their ateliers; enjoy the great serenity of U Bein Bridge –the world’s longest teak bridge. The U Bein footbridge stretches almost three-quarters of a mile over Thaungthaman Lake, and is heavily utilized by the local monks in maroon robes who carry alms bowls back and forth to monasteries; and then we’ll visit Mahagandaryon Monastery where we can observe the life of over 1000 monks. It is not only the most reputed and well- known monastery in Myanmar but also known by all tourists from all over the world for its unique value like a person with good perfume attracts people all around without being seen. The name of the monastery means “The sense of perfume”. Following, we visit the traditional hand –woven silk workshop before continuing our drive to Mandalay city. We will visit over to Mahar Myat Muni Buddha Image -the most ancient Buddha image casted in bronze in Myanmar and visit gold leaf beating workshop. Afternoon, visit to Royal Palace compound-original Palace was destroyed during world war two and a replica was built in 1995. Then continue to Shwe Nandaw Monastery -the most beautiful monastery dated 19 century and Kuthodaw Pagoda complex -the largest book in the world (792 stone tablets into which are inscribed the entire Buddhist canon are completed in 1878). Finish the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to enjoy sunset. It is worthy to have a stroll up the hill enjoying panoramic views from different location. Stay overnight at hotel in Mandalay. Morning breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bagan. Bagan, located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River, is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world with many dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. Later we will drive to the most famous old wooden monastery, Nat Htauk Kyaung, Gawdawpalin, the most massive and imposing monument in Bagan and Bupaya or Bu Pagoda, situated right on the river bank of the Ayeyarwaddy was a favorite place to watch the sunset. Stay overnight at hotel in Bagan. After breakfast at the hotel, we'll visit Nyaung Oo Market where villagers gather every day to buy and sell their produce and other goods. Theb proceed to Myinkaba village and observe the process of traditional lacquer-ware, one of the best-known Myanmar handricrafts and a speciality of Bagan. Visit Myinkaba Gubyaukkyi (an early period Pyu-style temple of Hindu influence). Nextstop at Manuha and Nanpaya temples. We will have a panoramic sunset view of an entire ruin of Bagan from Shwesandaw Pagoda built by King Anawrahta in 1057. Then proceed to the largest and best preserved of all the Bagan temples and Dhammayangyi Temple, Pyathadar (Pyithatgyi) Temple, the most interesting monastery in Bagan especially one of the interested and the latter period of temple building at Bagan. In the afternoon, we will transfer to the airport for your flight back to Yangon. Arrive Yangon and transfer to hotel for check in. Stay overnight at hotel in Yangon. The first, in March 1872, was to England and its purpose was to obtain for Burma recognition as a fully sovereign state, notwithstanding the fact that Lower Burma was already in British hands. Failing to obtain that recognition from England, Kinwun Mingyi crossed over to France and entered into a commercial treaty with the Republic, thus demonstrating the sovereign treaty-making power of the Kingdom of Burma. But on return to Mandalay in May 1873, Kinwun Mingyi found the Burmese court unenthusiastic over the treaty, and when a French embassy arrived some months later to exchange ratification, the King suggested amendments and additions.

    © 2008 SOAS Bulletin of Burma Research 1 THE GOLDEN ROCK AT KYAIK-HTI-YO Donald M. Stadtner The Golden Rock ranks with the Shwedagon and the Mahamuni as a solid member of Burma’s sacred triumvirate, yet its history is the most obscure. The hair relics of the Buddha believed to be inside the granite boulder are the objects of devotion, but the rock’s sanctity owes as much to its rich legacy. How this 611.45 ton granite boulder balancing on a cliff side in a remote mountain range came to achieve national veneration is testimony to not only the tenacious continuity of old legends but also their remarkable elasticity. If myths are to survive and flourish, then they must be nimble and able to change with new circumstances. The present modest and preliminary exploration sketches the major historical sources surrounding Kyaik-hti- yo and suggests how the Golden Rock grew to be one of Burma’s most sacred sites. Its history is plagued by gaps, but its general outline can be pieced together. The Kyaik-hti-yo tradition can be traced to an important fifteenth-century Mon myth centered on six hair relics the Buddha presented to six hermits. These unnamed recluses returned to their hermitages in locations between Rangoon and the Thaton area, but Kyaik-hti-yo was not among them. This basic Mon myth survived the loss of Pegu and Lower Burma to Burmese forces in the sixteenth century and provided a firm but fluid foundation on which many later myths in Lower Burma were constructed, often in unexpected ways.

    All rights reserved Guido Mario Cottino Myanmar, the pearl of Asia, the charm of the ethnic groups As I crossed the centre of Yangon1, I saw from the window the buildings typical of the colonial period, the splendour of the various pagodas which dominate the city. In this very first moment, I felt the kindness of the population who live here and the traditional and mystic atmosphere which still predominates this world. I walked around the old town through some of the narrow streets, passing by colonial buildings and looking for a famous restaurant where I could taste typical Burmese food. I stopped before an external façade and I saw it for a while, wondering if I had found the right place: “It should be this. Let’s go! Oh it’s amazing” I exhorted while admiring the rooms inside in a well restored and decorated room. This room followed the traditional architecture and design of the city. I spent a pleasant night waiting to visit the city and its monuments the next days. The Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most important places in Yangon for its people. Flanking the entrance, locals sell flowers, traditional dresses and holy objects. As one walks on the floor around the pagoda one is astonished and enshrouded by the beautiful atmosphere. People come here on the occasion of their birthday, to pray, or to study. During the visit, one sees different celebrations before the holy figures and in the small temples around the Pagoda. The population of Myanmar attend this place wearing clothes on the basis of the celebration they participate in and based of the ethnic group which they belong.
