Detail Itinerary Day 1 Yangon Arrival Warmly welcome upon your arrival in Yangon International Airport. Your representative will meet you at the airport for a transfer to your hotel in the city center. In the late afternoon, visit Shwedagon Pagoda - which enshrines strands of Buddha's hair and other holy relics. Overnight at hotel. Meals: NA Accommodation: Hotel in Yangon Transportations: Car Day 2 Yangon Today, you will spend time to explore the great city - Yagon City on food, you will take in the best of colonial Yangon. Firstly, visit Sule Pagoda, 48 meters golden dome, Botataung Pagoda where we can see the Buddha hair relic. Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha, Kandawgyi Lake which is closed to the city center and a good place for a walk. This lake is most attractive at sunset when the glittering Shwedagon is reflected in its calm water and China Town. Return to the hotel. Sightseeing includes Pahtodawgyi Pagoda which is unfinished huge pagoda that was supposed to have 150 m high, Mingun Bell which has about 90 tons in weight and the world’s biggest bell among the ringing ones, Myatheindan Pagoda – the most beautiful archaeological style. Continue our tour to Inwa which lies at the confluence of the Ayeyarwaddy and the Dohtawati rivers just a few miles south of Mandalay. Get there by boat. Visit around Inwa by horse-cart. Inwa sightseeing: Maha Aung Myae Bonsan, Mai Nu Oak Kyaung (Brick Monastery), the 30m high masonry watchtower (Nan Myint), learning tower of Inwa and Bagaya Monastery made of 267 teak pillars. Keep going sightseeing to Sagaing hill, a religious center for Buddhist devotees. Visit Umin Thonesae and the 97ft high Soon Oo Ponya Shin Paya built in 1312. You can also watch the sunset there. These monuments were the result of the Buddhist pursuit of merit-making, the idea that individuals could increase their socio-spiritual status by performing pious acts for the Sangha (Buddhist Order). Amongst the most meritous act was the construction of a religious monument. Using the iconographic record and historical literature, alongside entanglement theory, this thesis explores how the movement of labour, capital, and resources for the construction of these monuments influenced the settlement patterns of Bagan’s broader cityscape. The findings suggest that these monuments bound settlements, their inhabitants, and the Crown, in a variety of enabling and constraining relationships. This thesis has created the foundations for understanding the settlements of Bagan and serves as a useful platform to perform comparative studies once archaeological data for settlement patterning becomes available.
