Dear Parents/Guardians of Student Athletes,

Another new school year is rapidly approaching! August means our fall athletic programs begin, and our students will once again be practicing. One can imagine the whistles blowing, athletes huffing and puffing, officials preparing, and the excitement building as another year of athletics at The James Monroe High School approaches. The attached newsletter is full of important information regarding each fall sport. Please take the time to read and to discuss with your child the athletic options availa- ble and to stress the importance of good sportsmanship.

In addition to game schedules and directions to competing schools, the newsletter contains the names of the head coaches and their assistants. We have included their contact information should you have a question that is not addressed in the newsletter.

The James Monroe is a member of the High School League. Starting in the Fall of 2013 the V.H.S.L. has reclassified all member schools into six classes. The James Monroe High School is in the 3A East Classification. At the conclusion of regular season play, our student athletes will compete in Conference 27 which includes the following schools:

Brentsville, Culpeper, The James Monroe, Kettle Fun, Manassas Park, and Spotsylvania.

We invite each student to be a part of an athletic team. We take pride in creating an enjoyable, yet challenging environment for our student athletes and expect them to present themselves as dedicated athletes who are proud to wear the black and orange. Athletes are expected to excel on the field of play and in the classroom. We work with the athletes to build self-confidence and to develop an atti- tude that conveys excellent sportsmanship skills and an overall appreciation for learning. All student athletes are expected to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the entire school year.

James Monroe is an excellent high school. We look forward to your help and support. It is our goal to keep our academic and athletic performances the best in the area. We hope to see you in August.

Sincerely,

Mary Crismon Student Activities Director

The James Monroe High School Athletic Mission Statement

The mission of The James Monroe High School Athletic Department is to provide an ath- letic and extracurricular program that instills strong values of discipline, sportsmanship, integrity, leadership, and social responsibility; to promote ethnic and cultural diversity within our athletic and extracurricular programs; and to make our programs an endur- ing source of pride for students, alumni, and the community. We ask that each parent of a fall athlete attend a short meeting to discuss the athletic code of conduct, eligibility, scholastic endeavors, and the trainer’s role. The head coach of each sport will notify parents of the time and place. Parents will be able to ask questions, to secure practice and game schedules, and to meet each of the coaches assigned to the sport. Parents will need to sign all rules and regulations for the school as well as the rules/guidelines established by the coach.

Your encouragement and support of James Monroe Athletics have always been the secret to our success. We ask your continued support by attending this important meeting with your son or daughter. We believe you will find this program very beneficial.

2013 FALL SPORTS PROGRAM AD PURCHASE

The athletic program at James Monroe High School provides interested parents and other community members the opportunity to support, through volunteer and financial resources, all sport programs. The money that we make from our fund raising activities is used to purchase items such as trophies, champi- onship t-shirts, and equipment. Without this support we would not be able to provide our students with the same quality programs we give them each year. The overall success of the JM Athletic program is outstanding. We believe the dedication of the students, coaches, parents, and community is directly responsible for our many accomplishments.

The coaches and parents are fully aware of the need for community support in order to make the many teams’ dedication and hard work pay off. Part of that support comes through the donations given from friends and community services that become visible by placing ads in the Fall Sports Program. We ask for your support and thank you for your assistance with our athletic endeavors. If you have any ques- tions about making a donation or the programs at our school, please contact Mary Crismon, Student Activities Director at 372-1100.
