In 2004 we took out the clappers from the two heaviest bells and had new modern bearings put in by Taylors. The bellringers decided that now, after 50 years of regular use, the four lighter clappers also needed attention. We asked Whites of Appleton (who had carried out the recent major refurbishment of the bells at All Saints) to quote for the work. They gave us a favourable costing as the church bells were due to have the same treatment but to all their six bells at the same time. The Tenor bell has become progressively more difficult to raise into the ringing position so we decided that we would ask Whites to replace the wrought iron shaft of the clapper with one made of wood (ash); this would lighten the clapper and lower the centre of gravity. On Saturday 3rd September four of our bellringers removed the five clappers, added them to the six from Baughurst; they then were taken to Whites on the Monday. On Thursday 8th Sept Whites brought them all back and we re-installed ours in the morning and then did Baughurst in the afternoon. The final result is a much better ring of bells and the tenor bell is easier to raise. Clappers: Tenor (wooden shaft), No.4, No.3, No.2, Treble
