We started the morning with quite a long and extensive tour of the basement area of Sydney Tower where the main kitchens, stores and food delivery and storage areas are located. A complete overview of Sydney Tower dining was provided covering all aspects including: safety, staff responsibilities, point of sale systems, ordering of stock, security, food preparation, styles of dining, target markets and promotional methods. We were accompanied by a tour guide throughout the morning and also had some information given to us by the executive chef. After our tour, students and staff had lunch at the Sydney Tower Buffett - the aspect of the day most anticipated! We were extremely fortunate to have a glorious day and could see the ocean and even Cronulla from the restaurant. The food was of an extremely high standard and as there are many international guests there was an array of choices which included many bush foods such as emu, crocodile and kangaroo. MS INGRID MOON HEAD TEACHER TAS HOME ECONOMICS VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR 30/08/2016 Woolooware High School p.3 STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE YOUTH PARLIAMENT At the closing ceremony I was proudly wearing Woolooware High School blazer on the backbench. The YMCA NSW Youth Governor was announced, they said my name and I was elected as the 2016-17 YMCA NSW Youth Governor. It was such an amazing experience: representing Cronulla Electorate and Woolooware High School, developing as a leader and a person, getting overwhelming respect from my peers because of our schools work with White Ribbon and meeting such passionate and inspiring young people from all over NSW. It was fun and I encourage anyone who wants to do it in the future to do so because it’s remarkable knowing that you can have a powerful voice and that people do listen. In the holidays I was lucky enough to participate in the YMCA Youth and Government program at Sydney MATTHEW ROUSSIS Parliament House representing the Cronulla electorate. I SCHOOL CAPTAIN was successful in gaining the nomination and proud to represent my school and community. At the training camp in the previous holidays we were separated into committees such as mental health, transport, multi-culturalism, family and communities and rural and regional affairs. I became a member of the Environment Committee. We created the “Environmental Packaging Bill 2016”, which aims to minimise the environmental impacts arising from the production and disposal of packaging, in an effort to reduce the amount of packaging used by business. I was a part of the government sponsors for our bill and we had the opportunity to debate our amendments of biodegradable packaging against the opposition in the Legislative Assembly (LA), which was chaired by our local MP Mark Speakman. The bill passed through the LA and the Legislative Council and is now being considered by Members on NSW Parliament. I also had the opportunity to speak on the ‘open floor’ in other debates that I was passionate about. I spoke in the family and community debate and the crisis issue debate about revenge pornography in reference to the prevalent issue of domestic violence. We were also invited into The Governor Mr. David Hurley’s house, where we chatted with him and his wife as well as getting tours around his house and the Botanic Gardens. At the camp we had the chance to run for the “most prestigious” role of Youth Governor for the remainder of 2016 and 2017 and I was elected into the top 6 finalists by the other youth members in the LA. I definitely felt the underdog as everyone else knew a whole lot more than me about politics but I didn't give up. We were all interviewed by a panel of YMCA employees, whom asked us questions in order to see who was worthy of the position (thanks to Mr Cox and the entire PDHPE Department for teaching us all how to do well in interviews). 30/08/2016 Woolooware High School p.4 STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE STUDENTS IN THE NEWS Abbey Simshauser (10) achieved selection as a member of the Under 16 Waterpolo team at the Pan Pacific Games. Foreword It is a matter of regret that, in the year 2000, Sutherland Group possesses neither a documented history nor even records which are in any way complete, covering its thirty-eight year lifespan. The late Dick Dietsch, one of our former stalwart members, actually compiled such a history ill 1986, but unfortunately, the only copy of that document has been lost. The archives from the early years, which our Honorary Secretary has in her safekeeping, consist mainly ofinward and outward correspondence, dating from February 1963 to March 1976. There are also a few sundry reports, attendance records, pamphlets, questionnaires and newsletters from that period. Fortunately, however, reports ofsome ofthe Group's early activities have come to light in early editions ofNSW Region's newsletter, Native Plantsfor NSW In the absence of more substantial records, and in the hope of at least recording in a concise fonn what can be gleaned of the Group's early history, I am writing this brief account, and updating it to the present with the help ofnewsletters and committee minutes from 1977.

  • Electoral Rolls for the Shire
LIBRARY SERVICES - ELECTORAL ROLLS FOR THE SHIRE WHAT ARE ELECTORAL ROLLS? Electoral rolls are an alphabetically arranged listing of people eligible to vote at Commonwealth, state/territory and local government elections and referenda. They are grouped under electoral divisions. At times divisions are further broken down into subdivisions. As electoral rolls exist for each tier of government, this allows three separate sources of information to be searched. When checking electoral rolls, the following key dates may be relevant to your search: 1902 The Commonwealth Franchise Act granted men and women who were British subjects 21 years and over the right to vote. Non-British subjects were not permitted to vote until the 1940s 1906 Sutherland Shire was formed 1967 Indigenous Australians eligible to vote 1973 The voting age was changed from 21 to 18 years HOW CAN ELECTORAL ROLLS ASSIST ME IN FINDING INFORMATION ABOUT SOMEONE IN THE SUTHERLAND SHIRE? Electoral rolls may assist with family/local history research as they can include an individual’s name, address and occupation for a specific year. Please be aware that house numbers or street names may not always be supplied for early electoral rolls eg. Surname Christian name Residence Occupation Miller James Miranda Butcher WHAT ELECTORAL ROLLS DOES SUTHERLAND LIBRARY HOLD?
