The Psalmody of Advent (“Keyahk”) According to the Tradition of The Coptic Orthodox Church “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” (Luke 1:28) William A. Hanna, Ph.D. Preliminary English Translation: (From the Arabic Original Published in Cairo, Egypt, 1999) This is a private effort, for free unlimited distribution. The Coptic Orthodox Church is not responsible for this effort. This was undertaken by the author as a free will voluntary contribution to the huge effort of translating the many writings in the library of the Coptic Orthodox church into the English language for the benefit of the Copts in Diaspora. May the Lord use this and the many other works to the Glory of His Wonderful Name. Glory be to Our God in His Church. Amen. ©2002 English Translation; Dr. William A. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10,11) “And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.” (Luke 1:46-48) English Translation: The Psalmody of Advent (“Keyahk”): Page iii English Translation: The Psalmody of Advent (“Keyahk”): Page iv “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.” ( Exodus 3;2-8) English Translation: The Psalmody of Advent (“Keyahk”): Page v Table of Contents Introduction .............................................................................1 THE FIRST CANTICLE..............................................................3 (Exodus 15)..............................................................................3 PSALI ADAM.............................................................................5 PSALI ADAM.............................................................................5 (On the Second Canticle) ........................................................5 Have mercy upon us.The Lord told Moses, Tell Your People to Depart..................................................................................7 The Lord told Moses, Tell Your People to Depart...................8 (A Praise on the First Ode) ......................................................8 THE SECOND CANTICLE .......................................................12 (Psalm 136)............................................................................12 PSALI ADAM...........................................................................14 Praise on the Second Ode (Adaam) ......................................16 (I Write Rhythm and Order, on the explanantion of Adaam) 16 THE THIRD CANTICLE ...........................................................21 PSALI BATOS.........................................................................24 WE FOLLOW THEE .................................................................27 A Praise on the Third Ode .....................................................28 (O’Lord to You be Praise, With Your Only Begotten Son).....28 Glory to the Worshiped God, and His Only Begotten Son.....33 (A Praise on the Fourth Ode).................................................33 Agios Otheos Agios Eshiros ..................................................38 (Holy God Holy, Holy Mighty Holy, Holy Immortal Holy).......38 The praise of the three youth:...............................................43 (Anania, Azaria, and Missael)................................................43 THE FOURTH CANTICLE (Fourth ODE) .................................48 (Psalm 148)............................................................................48 (Psalm 149)............................................................................49 A Praise of our Fathers Sts.
