Cultivation of the Citrus “Natsumikan” was begun at the samurai’s residence garden so as to relieve the samurai family who lost a salary and in extreme poverty after the . Nowadays, the golden color of Citrus “Natsumikan” seen over an earthen wall becomes the representative scene of Hagi city. Roast Kamaboko Fish Paste

“Yakinuki kamaboko”(A kind of boiled fish paste) is made by the traditional technique of “yakinuki” been traditionally transferred from the middle of Edo era that means a process of indirect firing to Kamaboko. “Yakinuki Kamaboko” is to be finished with the unique elasticity and lustrous skin by not only being steamed, but also be grilled with an indirect firing for many hours. Comparing with the Kamaboko processed by only steaming, “Yakinuki Kamaboko” has distinctive characteristics of chewy and delicate taste, and these characteristics would be unforgettable after tasting once.

This facility promotes the delicious food culture that was developed in the castle town of Hagi by offering fresh seasonal foods provided by producers in Hagi and other parts of Yamaguchi Prefecture. Roadside Station "Senzakitchen"

This facility contains a gift shop selling Yamaguchi Nagato products, with a restaurant located next door. Products including freshly caught fish from Senzaki Port, dried fish, and the famous Senzaki Kamaboko steamed fish paste are available. Hagi Castle Town (World Heritage Site)

Hagi Castle Town is designated a National Historical Site, with streets laid out in a grid containing rows of samurai residences and traditional townhouses. The streets remain unchanged, maintainig the same appearance as in days long past. The small alleyways with names such as Kikuya-yokocho, Iseya-yokocho, and Edoya-yokocho are home to many historical sights including the opulent home of the Kikuya family, purveyors to the Hagi Domain, as well as the birthplace of Shinsaku Takasugi, the old residences of Takayoshi Kido and Shusuke Aoki, storehouses with "namako" tiled walls, gates, and earth walls.

Motonosumi Shrine

Following a divine revelation from the white fox, Motonosumi Shrine was created in 1955 by division of the deity of Taikodani Inari Shrine from Tsuwano-cho, Shimane Prefecture. The continuous line of 123 red Torii gates leading from the Ryugu no Shiofuki side are an impressive sight. The landscape is preserved for these 123 gates that are thought to bring good fortune. Look carefully at the Torii gate at the exit to the rear approach and you will see an offering box sitting on top. It is said that if your coin offering makes it into the box, your wish will be granted.

Omijima Sightseeing Cruise

Hagi Jidai Festival

The Hagi Daimyo Procession has been performed in Hagi City since ancient times. It is a parade that winds its way through the city as an offering to the shrine god, and is the largest event of the autumn. More than 200 people form a procession that travels through the city around the castle town. Basket palanquin are placed at key spots on the route, and in front of them the procession performs offerings including the Japanese sandal dance holding sandals and a performance with Choshu spears that are approximately 5.5m long. It is a sight not to be missed!
