HMB PRESS KIT The Hungry March Band is a parade, a party, a blazing entity of flesh, blood, brass, steel & wood. HMB’s crew of 20 hardworking horn players, percussionists, and performers knows that mayhem is addictive. Their thunder roars from Brooklyn in seas of Gypsy, Dixie, Ska, Punk and Funk. BRINGING THE MUSIC BACK TO THE STREETS WWW.HUNGRYMARCHBAND.COM CONTENTS: Who We Are pg 2 On the Waterfront Press Release pg 3 Photo and Members pg 5 List of Venues pg 6 THE HUNGRY MARCH BAND The Hungry March Band is an award-winning brass march band based in New York City. It is our belief that it is our destiny to bring music to the people, be it in the streets, the rail- cars, the alleyways, the boats, the bars, boardwalks or boulevards. We are a parade, a party, a blazing entity of flesh, blood, steel, brass and wood. We are the music of the people. Our musical repertoire consists of original compositions written by band members as well as scores selected from our multi-cultural world community. These songs include tunes from New Orleans street bands, European brass, Gypsy/Roma classics, brass bands of India, traditionals, the jazz world and the global community of NYC. The band is an ever evolving musical experiment influenced and inspired by Brooklyn’s backyard, includ- ing Latin flavor, Klezmer sounds, punk rock noise, hip hop beats and music of the streets. Our discography includes two self produced, independently released CD’s. The most recent, “On the Waterfront”, was recorded in a loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Our virgin debut, Hungry March Band Official Bootleg (released in 2001), consists of a series of live recordings and is considered a historical reference for exercises in wind, percussion and fluid dynamics. We have been featured in articles in the New York Times, New York Post, Time Out New York, New York Press, Tokyo Times and have countless mentions in various zines and web publications. We have appeared on several TV networks including Lifetime, CNN, and New York One, marchbys on the fly with ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as appearances in several documentaries including the feature A Cat in a Bag. We have performed at a tremendous variety of fine venues and celebrated events. The band is infamous for playing shows that are somewhere between legendary and magical. Such planned and spontaneous performances have included guerilla art events on the Staten Island Ferry, NYC subways, Brighton Beach Boardwalks and steps of the NYC Post Office. Please see our separate events list. We are available to play at festivals, parties, parades, community celebrations, conven- tions, birthdays, weddings, bar mitzvahs…and remain open to suggestion! www.HungryMarchBand.com BOOKING AND INFORMATION: JAPANESE CONTACT: Theresa Westerdahl • 917-676-8813 Atsushi Tsumura 183 South 8th St #3 • Brooklyn, NY 11211 917-562-9295 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEW YORK CITY: Brooklyn’s favorite brass band’s new CD “On the Waterfront” has arrived! We are the music of the people! “On the Waterfront” is dedicated to the endangered slice of home turf carved out of the embat- tled vacant lot we fondly refer to as “The People’s Park”. The East River site is currently surround- ed by fencing and locked up awaiting its fate. This vanishing wildness has been the location of the HMB’s weekly rehearsals for 5 years and has also hosted demolished cars, fishermen, public art, guerilla art events, homeless immigrants, skateboarders and has been an oasis for this thriv- ing NYC community. We are currently banned from our promised land. The CD is produced by the band and recorded in Williamsburg with John Gurrin as engineer. Cover art by the acclaimed LES activist artist FLY. It is available at Earwax Records and Clovis Books in Williamsburg, on the web at CDBaby.com and directly from the band.
