ST. ANTON ARLBERG The village of Sankt Anton am Arlberg is located in the West of Austria, in the Tyrol district. It is also a ski resort that forms a part of the Alberg region along with other municipalities, such as Stuben, St Christoph, and Lech-Zürs. This ski region has more than 82 cable cars and chair-lifts, 260 kilometres of marked out pistes and 184 kilometres of snow runs for cross-country skiing. The Sankt Anton resort is 1304 metres above sea level, and it is a highly popular holiday destination for both those who do winter sports (such as skiing and snowboarding) and hill-walkers and mountaineers. It has an average height difference of about 1507 metres, and a maximum altitude of 2811 metres above sea level. How to get to Sankt Anton am Arlberg In order to get to this Austrian village, you will need to head to the heart of the Alberg region. The nearest airport is in Friedrich, and it has connections with many European cities, thanks to low- cost companies that operate in winter at this airport. It is located about 125 kilometres from the resort, and once there, you will need to travel by car to Stuben, which will take an hour and a half, and then head to the village of St. Anton, which will take you another half an hour. All the towns in the Alberg region are linked together by a large main and local road network with easy access. Therefore, a bus service can take you to the different ski resort in the area in the event that you do not have your own car. Zurich International Airport is another option for getting to this Austrian village. Once at this airport, you should take the Arlbergexpress train that will take you directly to Langen where you should take a bus transfer or a taxi (Taxi Der Lechery, or Arlberg Taxi). The connections within the Arlberg region are fantastic, with there being numerous bus services between the five towns, in addition to taxis and regional trains. Car parks at Sankt Anton am Arlberg If you are going to stay in St. Anton, many of the hotels offer free parking services to their clients. Once you have finished the day, let yourself go, with the endless number of restaurants where you can eat and taste traditional, regional dishes, in the restaurant of the Schindler hotel, the Ganerwirt, or the Hazienda, as some examples. To have a drink and to enjoy live music, in addition to the shows and live music that many of the hotels offer, you can visit larger than life establishments, such as The Krazy Kanguruh (one of the oldest and most famous at the resort), or The Underground on the Piste (with numerous live performances and a wide variety of drinks and spirits). Once the sun goes down and if you feel like going out, the best nighclubs at the resort open their doors to you. You cannot leave St. Anton without have a drink in the famous, classy Kandahar, or in the nightclub at the Post hotel, The Piccadilly. Bear in mind that like the majority of resorts that form a part of the Alberg region, it is quite an expensive après-ski due to the type of public that usually visit its pistes and facilities. Equipment hire at Sankt Anton am Arlberg In the centre of the resort and village, near the first bars and restaurants, you can find many shops where you can acquire all kinds of products: jewellery, clothing stores, delicatessens, book shops, antique shops, etc. It is a commercial area aimed at customers of a medium-high purchasing power. In both the commercial centre and the St. Anton village area, you will find specialised sports shops where you can buy and hire all the equipment that you need in order to enjoy your days in the snow. Specialised personnel will update you on the latest fashions regarding ski and snowboard equipment, and they will advise you on what is best for your needs, in relation to your level, budget and number of days for which you are staying. Classes and rental stores at Sankt Anton am Arlberg The St. Anton resort has five ski schools where you can learn the basics and techniques to spend your holidays in the snow, enjoy sports such as skiing and snowboarding. They offer individual or group classes that span different difficulty levels and which will enable you to perfect your skills, thanks to the help of the professional instructors. The two main academies at this Austrian resort are the Arlberg Ski School, and the St. Anton Ski School. Prices vary from 50€ per person in group classes of two hours a day, to 250€ for an individual class of a duration of four hours. Where to stay at Sankt Anton am Arlberg If you are looking for comfort, the Hotel Arlmont is situated at an altitude of 1300 metres, right next to the ski pistes, and only 20 metres from the Arle cable car. The Hotel Arlenburg is 200 metres from the Nassereinerbahn chair-lift, and right next to the ski runs, only 700 metres from the village.
