The Gregorian Latin liturgy, celebrated in this church, fol- lows the tradition of Peter, the first Pope, and has never undergone any essen- tial change till the present time. Every ges- ture, every word has been weighed and measured with the assistance of the Holy Ghost for the greatest glory of God and the salvation of souls. Welcome Visitors! We thank you for coming. He founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women’s Order of St. Clare, and the Third Order of Saint Francis for men and women not able to live the lives of itinerant preachers. In 1224 he received the stigmata, making him the first recorded person to bear the wounds of Christ's Passion. He died during the evening hours of October 3, 1226, while listening to a reading he had requested of Psalm 142. **** St. Bridget was born into the Swedish royal family in 1302. In obedience to her father, she was married to Prince Ulf of Sweden. They had eight children; one became St Catherine of Sweden. After separating by mutual consent, her husband entered the Cistercian Order, where he died thirty years before her. St. Bridget remained gentle for the poor and nourished twelve persons every day, serving them herself. She established hospices for the sick and the convalescent. She founded the Order of the Holy Savior. She died in 1373 and was canonized by Pope Boniface IX on October 7th, 1391. **** St. Bruno of (c.1030 - October 6th, 1101) was the founder of the Carthusian Order, he personally founded the order's first two communities. He was a celebrated teacher at Reims, and a close advisor of his former pupil, Pope Urban II. St. Bruno and his six companions built an oratory with small individual cells at a distance from each other where they lived isolated and in poverty, entirely occupied in prayer and study. St. Bruno resisted efforts to name him Archbishop of Reggio . He was canonized in 1623 by Pope Gregory XV. “The LORD is in his Holy Temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him.” (Hab. 2, 20) ON THE ADVANTAGES OF TRIBULATIONS by St. Alphonsus Liguori (5) By bearing patiently with the pains of sickness, a great, and perhaps the greater, part of the crown which is prepared for us in Heaven is completed. The sick sometimes com- plain that in sickness they can do nothing; but they err; for, in their infirmities they can do all things, by accepting their sufferings with peace and resignation. “The Cross of Christ,” says St. Chrysostom, “is the key of Paradise.” St. Francis de Sales used to say: “To suffer constantly for Jesus is the science of the ; we shall thus soon become saints.” It is by sufferings that God proves his serv- ants, and finds them worthy of himself. “Deus tentavit es, et invenit eos dignos se.” (Wisdom 3:5) “Whom,” says St. Paul, “the Lord loveth, he chastiseth; and he scour- geth every son whom he receiveth.” (Heb 12: 6) Hence, Jesus Christ once said to St. Te- resa: “Be assured that the souls dearest to my Father are those who suffer the greatest afflictions.” Hence Job said: “If we have received good things at the hand of God, why should we not receive evil?” (Job 2:10) If we have gladly received from God the goods of this Earth, why should we not receive more cheerfully tribulations, which are far more useful to us than worldly prosperity? St. Gregory informs us that, as flame fanned by the wind increases, so the soul is made perfect when she is op- pressed by tribulations. “Ignis flatu premitur, ut crescat.”
