Message from the Head Teacher

Thank you for your interest in this position. Whilst I am sure you have looked at the website to find out more about the school, we welcome candidates to visit so they can get a feel for the school, pupils and staff or alternatively, we are happy to arrange a virtual tour and meeting.

About the school:

Swaffham Bulbeck is a small, village primary school of 105 pupils. It is a Church of England school which is part of the Multi-Academy Trust and has good links with the local Church. The school draws its pupils from the immediate village and that of Lode and the surrounding Fens. We also take children from a wider area whose parents choose to send them here.

The school is organised into four classes with two year groups in each class. Planning for foundation subjects is done on a two year rolling plan with knowledge and skills being matched to each year group. Our curriculum is in the process of being carefully reviewed so that in every subject it builds upon prior learning and develops children’s understanding of core concepts and vocabulary. It is designed to motivate and engage the children as much as possible as well as giving them the opportunity to become more independent learners. Assessment for Learning is fully embedded throughout the school. We have a reputation locally as being a good school for pupils with Special Educational Needs.

The school works in partnership with CE Primary School with one leadership team which works across both schools. Teachers are encouraged to work collaboratively and both DEMAT and the school are committed to continuing professional development.

We have strong links with our local community and plan and organise regular events with various external organisations and the Governing Body is experienced and supportive. This year we have been working with a local charity, Red 2 Green on a project called ‘Cogs 2 Computers’. We are passionate about giving children a rich and varied experience and have a wonderful nature area in which ‘Forest Schools’ takes place and this year we have even introduced two new members, Molly and Maggie, rescue hens!

About the vision and values:

For Swaffham Bulbeck the theme of ‘Shining Brightly’ like a lighthouse is used to underpin our vision and values based within the context of Christian practice and belief. Swaffham Bulbeck C of E Primary School promotes a sustainable, challenging and Christian ethos which is at the heart of the community. All adults and children are responsible, caring and friendly. We communicate and work together effectively, showing respect for each other and our environment. Everyone is encouraged to be motivated, happy, confident and independent learners able to meet future challenges.

About the staff:

We have a committed and dedicated teaching staff, each of whom takes responsibility for at least two subject areas. We have substantial TA support across the school, with all classes receiving support during the week. Together the staff makes up an efficient, co-ordinated and flexible team. PPA time is provided for teachers mainly by the use of specialist teachers for PE, RE and Music.

About the children:

The children come for a variety of backgrounds. Many parents commute to and further afield, or run their own businesses; others work within the local community. We encourage children to respect themselves and others, and to be responsible for themselves and their actions. Our aim is to develop and extend the whole child whatever their ability, to become a mature, responsible member of the community. The school is friendly and welcoming to all who enter its doors. We work hard to ensure that all who work here feel valued, secure and supported.
