The Magnets – a Cappella Singers Firebird Events Ltd The Magnets – A Cappella Singers Firebird Events Ltd. Unit 3, Nimbus Business Park, Hercules Way, Farnborough, Hampshire GU14 6UU w: www.firebirdevents.co.uk e: [email protected] t: 01252 545654 ABOUT THE MAGNETS The Magnets are a cappella stars, making great music simply with their mouths. Combining glorious harmonies, virtuosi beatboxing and a very British charm, this six-man sound machine has become a must see act on the international music scene, with a hard-won reputation as festival favourites from Edinburgh to Adelaide. FROM THE BEGINNING Having paid their dues during their early days as a student group and street performers in Covent Garden, a major record deal with EMI in 2000 paved the way for a decade and a half of international touring. Now enjoying the resurgence in the popularity of vocal harmony singing, seen everywhere from the Pitch Perfect films to Gareth Malone’s The Choir, the band are often seen and heard on television and radio at home and abroad. They are frequent contributors on BBC Radio 2, while other recent major appearances include Comic Relief, BBC Breakfast and the viral T-Mobile ‘Welcome Back’ advert. Building on their success as a festival act, The Magnets regularly tour as a headlining act across Europe and beyond, including shows at major London venues such O2 Empire and Roundhouse. They have also supported artists such as Blondie and Tom Jones, and have performed at private events for supermodels, heads of state and royalty. RECENT UK SHOWS Shepherds Bush Empire, Scottish Royal Variety Show, Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Voices Now @ The Roundhouse, Isle of Wight Festival, Belfast International Festival, Brighton Festival, E4 Udderbelly @ Southbank, Royal Festival Hall, Birmingham LG Arena, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Royal Albert Hall. INTERNATIONAL TOURS Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cape Verde, Cayman Islands, China, Hungary, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Zimbabwe, UAE. TV & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS GMTV, Parkinson, BBC Breakfast, BBC Proms in the Park, MTV, Scott Mills Show (Radio 1), Showbusiness (Sky1), Comic Relief, The Arts Show (Radio 2), Magic Numbers (ITV1), Loose Ends (Radio 4), Blue Peter, The Late Late Show (Ireland), TV Total (Germany). • BBC Radio 2 Beatles BBC Radio 2 Beatles
RADIO MUSIC BBC Radio 2 Beatles BBC Radio 2 Beatles Last September BBC Radio 2 produced a spin off four-day Beatles Pop-Up DAB service marking the 50th anniversary of the release of the iconic Abbey Road album, broadcast from Abbey Road Studios, and celebrating the Fab Four as a group, as individual artists, and as songwriters, with a mix of live shows, simulcasts (with the parent network), and classic content from the extensive R2 & Apple Records archive. This was a partnership between R2 and Apple/Universal Music, and because of the place the band hold in the hearts of the public, it was an opportunity to invite talent from right across BBC Radio (Scott Mills, Lauren Laverne, Zoe Ball, Nicky Campbell and Greg James), and the music and entertainment industries (Dave Grohl, Gary Barlow, Grace Dent, Jack Savoretti, Paul Merton, John Bishop, Katie Melua and Guy Garvey), to share their love of the band, and their music catalogue. By utilising these names, alongside radio brands like Desert Island Discs, Mastertapes & Sunday Love Songs, we could not only target the band’s evergreen fans, but also a new younger 25-44 demographic. We also weaved complimentary simulcasts into the schedule, kicking off with the UK’s most popular radio programme, the Ken Bruce Show, live from Abbey Road, and then a special live concert from Studio 1, featuring presenter Guy Garvey (who also performed), the BBC Concert Orchestra, Rick Astley, Mark King from Level 42, Ruby Turner and Cerys Matthews, all interpreting classic Beatles songs in front of a small audience of competition winners.
