Ms. Casey provided further impetus for it by her research assistance on international human rights issues, and continued with research and editorial work as the essay developed. Ms. Giordani researched French law and procedure and obtained original sources. Mr. Mardemootoo worked on further research and assisted in formulating the issues. The translations of most French materials were initially done by Professor Tigar and reviewed by Ms. Giordani and Mr. Mardemootoo. As we were working on the project, the Texas InternationalLaw Journaleditors told us of Ms. Finkelstein's article, and we decided to turn our effort into a complementary piece that drew some slightly different conclusions. if Professor of Law and holder of the Joseph D. L’Argentine de Perón, pièce maîtresse de l’accueil des anciens nazis en Amérique latine Renée Fregosi, philosophe et politologue. Mots clés : Argentine, péronisme, nazis, antisémitisme Abstract : Between 1946 and 1952, under the two Perón presidencies, several thousands of former Nazis, including many notorious war criminals, arrived in Argentina. It is a whole bundle of causes that has made Argentina the centerpiece of the reception of former Nazis in Latin America. A traditional admiration for German expertise in military art as well as in industrial technologies. A developmental will. A lure of gain. Long-standing privileged personal relations between Perón and the Nazis. Ideological affinities and marked anti-Semitism. This dossier highlights the complexity of the links between Latin America and Europe from yesterday to today.

Powell, Associate Professor of Political Science, Leadership Studies Sol Goldman, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Political Science Copyright 2014 Katherine M. Campbell Abstract: Scholars have debated Pope Pius XII’s role in the Holocaust since the 1960s. Did he do everything he could and should have done to save Jews? His critics say no because of antisemitism rooted in the traditional Catholic views. His defenders say yes and deny that he was an antisemite. In my thesis, I shall assess the arguments on both sides in terms of the available evidence. I shall focus both on what Pius XII did do and what he did not do and on the degree to which he can be held responsible for the actions of low-level clergy.

  • Learning from the Aftermath of the Holocaust G
Learning From The Aftermath Of The Holocaust G. Short, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, United Kingdom International Journal of Historical Learning, Teaching and Research [IJHLTR], Volume 14, Number 2 – Spring/Summer 2017 Historical Association of Great Britain www.history.org.uk ISSN: 14472-9474 Abstract: In this article I seek to encourage those involved in Holocaust education in schools to engage not just with the Holocaust but also with its aftermath. I conceptualise the latter in terms of two questions; namely, what happened to those Jews who survived the Nazi onslaught and what became of the perpetrators? British researchers in the field of Holocaust education have largely ignored these questions, discovering only that many schools ignore them too. I argue that students are able to benefit in a number of ways from learning about the aftermath of the Holocaust, for the topic provides a sense of closure, allows for a more sophisticated understanding of the fate of European Jewry between 1933 and 1945 and also has the potential to promote responsible citizenship. WHAT IS THE TRUTH ABOUT THE SOBIBOR CONCENTRATION CAMP? FIND OUT! BRINGING HISTORY INTO ACCORD WITH THE FACTS IN THE TRADITION OF DR. HARRY ELMER BARNES The Barnes Review SOBIBÓR A JOURNAL OF NATIONALIST THOUGHT & HISTORY HOLOCAUSTPROPAGANDAANDREALITY VOLUME XVI NUMBER 4 JULY/AUGUST 2010 BARNESREVIEW.ORG A scholarly examination of the infamous Nazi “death camp” NEW FROM TBR: By Juergen Graf, Carlo Mattogno & Thomas Kues n May 2009, the 89-year-old Cleveland autoworker John Demjanjuk was deported from the United States to Germany, where he was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting murder in at least 27,900 cases. These mass murders were allegedly perpetrated at the Sobibór “death” Icamp in eastern Poland. According to mainstream historiography, 170,000 to 250,000 Jews were exterminated here in gas chambers between May 1942 and October 1943. The corpses were buried in mass graves and later incinerated on an open-air pyre. A DAGGER IN THE But do these claims really stand up to scrutiny? SOBIBOR In this book, the official version of what transpired at LEGEND Sobibór is put under the scanner. It is shown that the historiog- raphy of the camp is not based on solid evidence, but on the selec- tive use of eyewitness testimonies, which in turn are riddled with con- tradictions and outright absurdities. Could this book exonerate falsely accused John Demjanjuk? For more than half a century mainstream Holocaust historians made no real attempts to muster material Also in this issue: evidence for their claims about Sobibór. Finally, in the 21st century, professional historians carried out an archeological survey at the former camp site.

LADB Article Id: 51684 ISSN: 1060-4189 Pinochet-Supported Nazi Schaefer Given 20 Years by LADB Staff Category/Department: Chile Published: 2006-07-14 Former Nazi and ally to the regime of Gen. Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990) Paul Schaefer received a 20-year jail sentence in a Chilean court on May 24. The former leader of the compound known as Colonia Dignidad was convicted on charges that he committed abuses against 25 minors in the enclave between 1993 and 1997, and he faces further charges for participating in crimes committed by the secret police. The judge in Schaefer's case, Talca Appeals Court Judge Hernan Gonzalez, ordered the maximum penalty for 20 charges of "dishonest abuse" of minors and five counts of "sodomy rape" of children, resulting in the 20-year sentence and an order for an indemnification of 770 million pesos (US $1.4 million) to be paid to the victims. Gonzalez considered the crimes attributed to Schaefer to be proven, and he ruled favorably on the applications for indemnification from lawyers for 11 of the victims, who were ages 7 to 17 at the time of Schaefer's abuses.

Primarily through loans to build up the economy and diplomatic pressure, the United States and Great Britain helped to maintain an independent Austrian state and prevent an Anschluss or union with Germany from 1918 to 1934. In addition, this study examines the minority of Austrians who opposed an Anschluss . The three main groups of Austrians that supported independence were the Christian Social Party, monarchists, and some industries and industrialists. These Austrian nationalists cooperated with the Americans and British in sustaining an unwilling Austrian nation. Ultimately, the global depression weakened American and British capacity to practice dollar and pound diplomacy, and the popular appeal of Hitler combined with Nazi Germany’s aggression led to the realization of the Anschluss .

Daniel Stahl. Nazi-Jagd: Südamerikas Diktaturen und die Ahndung von NS-Verbrechen. Göttingen: Wallstein-Verlag. 2013. Reviewed by: Christiane Grieb, UCL Stahl’s Nazi-Jagd (Nazi Hunt) investigates the responses of South American governments to international requests for cooperation in the search for Nazi war criminals from 1945 through 2011. The Allied war crimes trial programs in Europe were largely limited to the trial of those Nazis identified and arrested in Allied detention centres in Europe. About many of the most atrocious war crimes and its perpetrators though, the public learned of only years or even decades later, and owed only to the locating or capture of Nazis like Mengele, Eichmann, Priebke or Barbie in South American countries. Previous research on escaped Nazi war criminals often focused on: the clandestine organisation of networks (ODESSA) that helped war criminals to thwart prosecution, provided fastidiously reconstructed operations of ‘ratlines’ out of Allied occupied Europe and into the safe havens of South America. Other more recent biographical studies crafted accounts of the social-nationalist careers and personal lives of war criminals in hiding. The German-based historian Daniel Stahl now complements these insights with his studies of judicial attempts to locate and to bring to justice those Nazi war criminals who had escaped to South America. Most capturing are his accounts of the resistance and diplomatic jiggery-pokery that West German prosecutors faced in South America. For decades, the majority of these efforts were foiled and Nazi war criminals could live unmolested in South America. Stahl did not just offer narratives of events, but in fact sought to establish an historical account of the achievements and failures to identify and repatriate Nazi war criminals for trial for a period of 50 years.
