The trail offers the opportunity to explore one of the most unique landscapes in New Zealand, and every season offers a different experience. Starting from Alexandra, riders soon enter the Roxburgh Gorge, with bluffs rising almost 350m on either side of the river at its most dramatic point. Gold-mining history plays a big part in the attraction of this trail, with many remnants to be seen. The middle section of this trail is currently not accessible by bike, so there is a 12km scenic boat trip down the river, which includes an informative commentary on the history of the region, before riders continue on their bikes. Please note the boat must be booked in advance. The trail ends at the Lake Roxburgh Dam, but on the other side of the river another Great Ride begins – the Clutha Gold Trail. The Roxburgh Gorge Trail also connects with the Otago Central Rail Trail at Alexandra. Together these three trails provide almost 250km of non-stop Great Riding! The Roxburgh Gorge Trail was ofcially opened on 24 October 2013. -

Executive summary The Taieri Plains is a low-lying alluvium-filled basin, approximately 210km2 in size. Bound to the north and south by an extensive fault system, it is characterised by gentle sloping topography, which grades from an elevation of about 40m in the east, to below mean sea level in the west. At its lowest point (excluding drains and ditches), it lies about 1.5m below mean sea level, and has three significant watercourses crossing it: the Taieri River, Silver Stream and the Waipori River. Lakes Waipori and Waihola mark the plain’s western boundary and have a regulating effect on drainage for the western part of the plains. The Taieri Plains has a complex natural-hazard setting, influenced by the combination of the natural processes that have helped shape the basin in which the plain rests, and the land uses that have developed since the mid-19th century. -

Dunedin 2003 Background: This report presents and discusses the findings from the Taieri Catchment & Community Health Survey conducted in June 2000. The catchment survey was part of a larger research project known as ‘The Taieri Catchment and Community Health Project’ (TC&CH Project), a collaborative research project initiated by Dr. Margot Parkes and colleagues at the University of Otago. The survey was developed in consultation with community reference groups who participated in the TC&CH Project. A more detailed account of the design, findings and implications of this survey, and the TC&CH Project are presented in the author’s doctoral thesis: Parkes M. (2003). Linking Ecosystems and Social Systems for Health and Sustainability: Public Health Lessons from the Taieri River Catchment. January 4, 2018 Proposal for Operator of Rail Service Mr. Luis Pavel Mendez Deputy Director Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission 1523 Pacific Avenue Santa Cruz, CA 95060-3911 Dear Mr. Mendez, Progressive Rail Incorporated (“PGR”) is pleased to submit a Proposal for Operator of Rail Service in accordance with the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (“SCCRTC”) Request For Proposals (“RFP”) dated December 8, 2017. Please accept this letter as our Transmittal Letter and the enclosed booklet (“Booklet”) as a detailed supplement of information that summarizes our vision and service plan for the Santa Cruz Branch Line. In preparation for this submittal, we have performed the following activities: • An onsite inspection of the entire 32 miles of rail; • An onsite inspection of all the bridges on the Branch Line with the assistance of A.R.E., an Irvine-based railroad bridge engineering firm; • An onsite inspection of all the railroad crossings with a goal to work with the municipalities to evaluate Locomotive Horn Signal Quiet Zones from Grove Lane Crossing in Capitola to Swift Avenue in Santa Cruz; • A meeting with the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk management to explore partnerships for passenger excursions; • A meeting with Ms. Christina Watson of the Transit Authority for Monterrey County to understand their plans and progress in developing a fast rail corridor to Salinas and how the Santa Cruz Branch Line might benefit from their experiences and ongoing efforts; • Meetings with potential freight customers in Watsonville; • Engaging PGR’s existing customers within its six-state network that would consider locating on the Santa Cruz Branch Line; • Given that PGR is already a major handling carrier for Union Pacific, meeting with representatives to advise them of our aspirations to become the Operator of the Branch Line; and • Retaining two rail advisors, one of whom is very familiar with the Branch Line operations, to meet with train manufacturers to explore environmentally friendly and California-compliant locomotives and train sets. -
