Revised: April 23, 2018. Accepted: June 10, 2018 Abstract The aim of this study is to describe traditional art capitalization as the cultural identity of a so- ciety and a strategy of the society which supports traditional art in developing cultural comodi- fication in line with the demands of the tourism industry. The paper is based on field research presenting a case study of the existence of Kubrosiswo traditional art from Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia which develops the cultural comodification as a strategy to respond to the economic capitalization demands, especially the emergence of the tourism industry which appeared in this globalization era. One alternative strategy which is developed in this research is by making a documentary film. The documentary film is one of the strategies to present the real- ity based on the description in the field, and it is also expected to create awareness in recognizing and comprehending the knowledge of Kubrosiswo traditional art. Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia e-mail: [email protected] Abstract Traditional dress defines a local identity of a culture, place, tribe, or race. Nowadays, traditional dresses are only worn on some ceremonies such as wedding ceremony and even so, many people do not wear any kind of traditional attire in attending a wedding. Instead, they use the modern one. In this era, women are familiar with the white gown for the wedding. Instead of wearing the traditional dress, they rather choose a white gown for some reasons such as the needs, the condition, efficiency, or interest. However, besides those personal reasons, there are also external factors such as economy, social, and even politics. These all factors happen in one process called globalization. They are connected through the process of globalization. In this process, those factors influence the local identity, which in this case is a traditional dress, in engaged with a white gown. Also, it can be identified whether the traditional dress can survive, or it is replaced by a white gown and Keywordswhat condition in globalization makes traditional dress survive or not. Globalization, white gown, traditional dress, postmodernity 1 Introduction Talking about local identity in a globalization context, at first, it is necessary to understand the meaning and the concept of both identity and globalization. Identity itself has two kinds of definitions: social and social category personal.

K. H. Syahdan No. 9, Kemanggisan, Palmerah, Jakarta 11480, Indonesia [email protected]; [email protected] Received November 2020; revised March 2021 Abstract. Indonesia is a country with diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural back- grounds. Among the tribes in Indonesia, one of them is the Batak tribe. The Batak tribe has a variety of cultures, one of which is ulos fabric. Every ulos fabric has meaning, and its patterns also have different meanings. However, in today's world, ulos fabric has be- gun to be forgotten. Many of ulos models and types are circulating, yet people can barely recognize them and sometimes they even do not know that it is a ulos fabric pattern. So to preserve the culture of this ulos fabric, we tried to classify the ulos fabric using the convolutional neural network method. We selected Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) because it shows better results in image recognition in recent years. We get the accuracy of around 87.27% in different factors. The model is then deployed to Application Program- ming Interface (API) to be used in android application that can predict the ulos fabric. The aim of the application and research is to help the people to recognize the ulos fabric pattern by taking pictures of it and then they will get information about the function of the ulos fabrics and its history that lies behind it.
