It's been my hometown ever since. Even though, I missed my country, listening to Brazilian Music has kept me moving forward, it's filled my heart with hope and love. For Brazilians, the music is their soul! We can’t live without it! For many years, I have been thinking and talking about ways to bring and promote Brazilian entertainment in a large scale to NYC and surrounding regions. I realized that the music wasn't enough, people didn't know where to go and learn about the Brazilian Culture. Today I am very proud to launch the first edition of the BOSSA - Brazilian Art and Music Magazine. The magazine will captivate hundreds of thousands of people in and around New York City. For those that do not know anything about Brazilian Culture here is an opportunity to go to one of the events and see the richness of Brazilian Art and hear the variety of sounds, rhythms and styles existent in our repertoire. Furthermore, learn about and see wonderful art work of many Brazilian artists. I hope you enjoy the magazine and support Brazilian Music Foundation’s mission, which is to promote, educate and advance Brazili- an Music in the Americas. Brazil is a large country, roughly the size of the United States and there is no shortage of musical styles, from samba and bossa nova to MPB. In addition to playing music, Som do Brasil connects with the community. Brazilian event announcements for the New York City area give the community a chance to experience Brazilian culture first hand. In addition, Som do Brasil promotes local musicians and artists to help them gain further exposure. Some recent guests include local artists Ze Luis, Vanessa Falabella, and the Brazuca Band and world famous Sergio Mendez, Simone, and Jair Rodriguez. Som do Brasil was started in September of 1997 by Eduardo Delgado, reviving a Street Samba show held in previous years. One of the most loved aspects of the show is the Antonio Carlos Jobim Birthday Broadcast every January. Som do Brasil is currently hosted by Jassvan de Lima. Afoxé, also called street candomblé, is a street procession that goes out during the carnival. It is an Afro-Brazilian manifestation with roots in the Yoruba people. Generally, its members are linked to a candomblé terreiro. The word "Ajayô" comes from African mythology and is a greeting to PURCHASE TIKETS an orixá, creator of man according to mythology.
