An Act to amend the Andhra Official Li~nguageAct, 1966. BE it enacted by ,the Legislative Assembly of the state of ~ndhraPradesh in the mtieth Year of the Republic of Intiia am fo1low~:- . .

1. This Act may be called the Andhra Short title

In AC~9 01 1966 1966 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in section 3, in sub-sedion (21,- (a) after clause (ii), t%.e fokwing claw shall be inserted, namely:- I -

--a 3. In section 6 of the principal Act in subtion d-6 (11, after clause (61,'the following shall be inserted, namely:-

Be it enacted by the Legislatfve Aaeembly of.the State of Andhra Pradesh-in the Forty-seventh Year of the ~epuGlicof , as follows:-

6. In section 5 of the prineipalh'ndmentof Act, - \ section 5.

(I) - in sub-section (11 : ( i ) for the words "Off 'icial Language", . the words "Official Languages1' shall be substituted; [ij.) after the words "for other memberst1 the words "of whom one. shall be proficient in ~rdulanguage1' shall be inserted;

F (2) in sub-section IZ), for the I words "Telugu Language1' occuring at three places, the words "Telugu and Urdu Languages" shall be ,substituted ; and

(3) in the marginal heading for the ll words "Official Language", the words "Official Languages " shall be substitu- ted.

The following Act of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative ' Assembly received the assent of the ~ovemoron the 25th

January, 2002 and the said assent is hereby first published , on the 29th January, 2002 in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette for general information :- ACT No. 2 OF 2002. AN ACT FURTHER TO AMEND THE ANDHU PRADESH OFFICIAL LANGUAGES ACT, 1966. Be it enacted by the ~e~isialivcAsscmbly uT the Statc of ~ndhraPradesh in che Fifty-second Year of the Republic of India as fallows :- 1. (1) This Act may be called the Andhra Piadesh Oficial Shor: d~lcand Languages (Amendment) Act, 2002. Comencc- rncnt. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the Shte Government may, by notification, in the Andhra Pradesh ~aze'tteapppoint. 2. According to Section 2 of the Andhra Pradesh Official Language Act, 1966, (Act No. 9 of 1966) enforced wilh effect from the 26th January, 1967, Telugu shall be the Oficial L,anguage of the State of Andhra Pradesh. Under section 7, the State Government may from time to time direct the usc of Telugu or any other language or languages, in addition to the Telugu language in the interest of persons speaking such languages, in such areas and for such official purposes ofthe Stateand for such period as may be specified. In order fo adopt a liberal approach in respect of Urdu speaking minority, the Government have declared Urdu as the second Official Language in eight districts viz., Hydetabad, Kurnool, Cuddapah, Nizamabad, Ananthapur, Rangareddy, Medak and Guntur where the population of Urdu speaking people is more than 10% of the total population as per 1981 census under article 345 .of the by suitably amending the said Act. According to G.O.Ms.No. 371, G.A. (O.L.1.) ' Department, dated 28-6- 1988, Urdu Language may be used for various purposes mentioned therein. In order to provide more facilities to the Urdu speaking population, it has been proposed to extend the faciIity to use urdu for OffTciaI purposes in five more districts viz., Chittoor, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, Warangal and Nellore Districts jn the State. To achieve the above objective it has been decided to amend section 2 of !he Andhra Pradesh Oficial Language Act, 1966 suitably. This Bill seeks to give effect to the abwe decision.
