Propane Gas Prohibited Alaska & British Columbia The RV’s propane tank must be turned off while the is on a ferry. Terminal agents will seal bottled gas containers prior to boarding. Small portable containers of fuel (5 gallons or less and limited to 2 containers) must be properly sealed, labeled with owner’s name for ID and stored by Alaska Marine System officials while in route. Smaller containers are allowed in quantities of no more than 10 pounds. The Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695, the Baltimore Beltway) is a convenient alternative route for crossing Baltimore’s Harbor. Boston Harbor, MA LP gas is prohibited in the Callahan, Prudential and Dewey Square Tunnels. / LP gas is prohibited in the Holland Tunnel between Manhattan and Jersey City; the lower level of the Expressway (I-95 South) between Manhattan and Fort Lee; and in the Lincoln Tunnel between Manhattan and Weehawken. New York LP gas is prohibited between Manhattan and in the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and between Manhattan and Queens in the Queens Midtown Tunnel. Texas LP gas is restricted in the Washburn Tunnel between Pasadena and Galena Park on the Houston Ship Channel. Vehicles are limited to a maximum of two 7 ½ gallon containers (30 pounds each of gas) or one 10 gallon container (40 pounds of gas) of DOT approved type, with shutoff valve at discharge opening. Valve must be closed when in tunnel. LP gas as vehicle fuel is prohibited. Virginia RVs may cross the Hampton Bridge Tunnel, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Tunnel provided that the LP tanks don’t exceed two 45 pound capacity tanks or two permanently mounted containers with a maximum total capacity of 200 pounds. Tanks must be completely shut off and securely attached. Washington Regulations require that you shut off and tag all propane tanks prior to boarding, unless they are the primary fuel source for your vehicle. Any number of full or empty tanks of propane may be transported in a vehicle, provided that the total weight does not exceed 100 pounds. Canada In most provinces, the law dictates that all appliances and pilot lights must be turned off and cylinder valves closed while traveling. Quebec An RV can a maximum of two bottles of flammable gas each with a capacity of 46 liters (12 US gal./54 lbs.) through tunnels and bridge-tunnels. Montana On Going-to-the-Sun in Glacier National Park, all vehicles and combinations of vehicles over 21 feet long and 8 feet wide (including mirrors) are prohibited between Avalanche Campground and the Rising Sun picnic area parking. Ferries- Many ferry lines charge extra for RVs. Ask about surcharges before reserving space on a ferry. It is important to ask members about their RV’s height, length and width including trailers, overhangs and towed vehicles. Most vessels can accommodate vehicles up to 60 feet in length. An additional premium may be charged for RVs that exceed the standard width rate of 8 feet 5 inches, with the mirrors folded in.
