3 PUCK’S PLACE — A SAFE HAVEN FOR CATS When Compassion, Determination and Hard Work Creates a Long-term Solution In mid-2015, a shy and sensitive cat we named Puck was surrendered to the Shelter. With a lot of love and attention, FOTAS volunteers were able to help socialize him and fi nd him a fur-ever home, or so we thought! He was adopted and returned a week later, but this time with ringworm, which is highly contagious to other cats, dogs, and even people! FOTAS volunteers wanted a happy ending for Puck, “He was adopted and so one of our volunteers took him home and and returned a isolated him in a kennel in her garage while treating him for ringworm (which takes months) with the help Puck fully recovered from ringworm and week later, but found a forever home. of another dedicated volunteer. And it’s movable, so the shed can be taken to another location, if needed. The good news is that Puck completely recovered and no other animals or humans contracted ringworm! Further good news is that we continue to house lucky feline residents to let them recover from surgery or illnesses in this lovely setting.

The bad news is that FOTAS needs some help paying for this new Generous FOTAS volunteers made Puck’s facility. DOGS LIVE TO PLAY! NOW LET THEM PLAY TO LIVE! Dogs Playing for Life (DPFL) is a program rooted in the notion that a dog’s natural instinct is to PLAY. Playing is a dog’s most natural form of positive interaction and communication with both humans and fellow canines. A dog at play provides the best opportunity to peer inside the canine soul and explore who the dog really is. DPFL is a nationally renowned, innovative training program that was founded by professional trainer Aimee Sadler. The Program demonstrates both the practical effi ciencies of play groups, as well as the emotional and behavioral benefi ts for the animals. Announcing Friends of the Animal Shelter Legacy Society One of the greatest ways you can be a lasting partner in the protection of animals is to support the Friends of the Animal Shelter’s mission beyond your lifetime. Planned gifts make that possible. By including us as a benefi ciary of your will, trust, life insurance or retirement plan, you will provide a lasting testament to your love of animals and save thousands of animals’ lives.

The Friends of the Animal Shelter Legacy Society recognizes contributors (with their permission) who include a provision for Friends of the Animal Shelter in their estate planning. Add Friends of the Animal Shelter as a benefi ciary in your will or living trust. For example: “I give and bequeath to Friends of the Animal Shelter (Tax ID #94-3153463), a nonprofi t corporation located at Phoenix, Oregon, for its (general or endowed) purposes, ______(dollar amount, percentage of estate, or residual of estate).” Name Friends of the Animal Shelter as a benefi ciary of a life insurance or retirement savings plan. Simply fi ll out and submit a benefi ciary change form directly to your fund administrator. If you have a fund or are considering establishing a fund of any kind at a community foundation, let your representative know that you intend to leave Friends of the Animal Shelter a legacy gift. The community foundation may have suggestions of how you can accomplish this using existing or new fund vehicles. Please inform Friends of the Animal Shelter of your future gift so we can thank you properly! And, please contact Jim Ormand at [email protected] or 541-646-5985 for more information. It is important to explore your options with your fi nancial planner or legal counsel so that you and your benefi ciaries receive the full benefi t of any considered gift.
