UT began intercollegiate competition in 1909 with the formation of the Southern Intercol legiate Athletic Association, though records are not available from that season through 1917. The Vols had no team during the 1918 and 1919 seasons because of World War I. The program commenced outdoor Southeastern Conference compe tition in 1933. World War II brought an end to the sport from 1943-46. Outdoor track and field resumed in 1947. Indoor meets were introduced in 1960. Records are based on scored meets of eight teams or fewer and do not include SEC or NCAA championship meets.
