Carrier Billing in 2017: Central & Eastern Europe Market Report by Fortumo Carrier Billing in 2017: Central & Eastern Europe Introduction Carrier billing in 2017: Central & Eastern Europe Market report by Fortumo Carrier billing in 2017: Central & Eastern Europe Introduction Fortumo’s market report on Central & Eastern Europe proles carrier billing landscape in the 10 biggest countries of the region. By population, these countries are Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria and Serbia. While equal in size to the EU5 (France, Germany, Italy, Spain & UK) or US in terms of population, they are signicantly more fragmented. Localization of both the digital service provided and payment methods is a key to succeed in the region. Central & Eastern Europe is in an intermediate phase between Western markets and quickly growing emerging markets. There is relatively high ownership of traditional desktop devices, which means traditional software vendors and PC game developers have signicant potential in the region. In all of the markets proled all but one country has reached smartphone ownership above 50%, which opens up new growth opportunities for digital merchants. At the same time, access to bank-based payments remains low, making carrier billing the perfect alternative to collect payments from Central & Eastern Europe. From this report, you will nd a high-level overview of the digital ecosystem in each country. Additionally, we provide data on carrier billing in the country: money spent per user on digital services as well as pricing dynamics of the market which help you ne-tune your monetization strategy. In addition to carrier billing we recommend looking into the following local payment methods for the region: Yandex Money, QIWI, WebMoney, Przelewy24, PaysafeCard and Skrill. To learn how to add several payment methods to your checkout without risking revenue loss from cannibalization, check out our white paper. If you have any questions about the data in this report, please reach out to us at [email protected]. • Effects of Micro Transactions on Video Games Industry
Nenad Tomić*1 UDC 004.42:794]:004.738.5:339 Pregledni naučni članak Primljen 08.03.2017. Odobren 19.04.2017. EFFECTS OF MICRO TRANSACTIONS ON VIDEO GAMES INDUSTRY During the twentieth century, the entertainment industry recorded a steady revenue growth. The progress of information and communication technology (ICT) influenced the creation of a new segment in the industry at the beginning of the 80s, known as the video game industry. During the first two decades, the dominant model of earning for video games publishers was sale of a full game, which means that users were obliged to pay in order to play the game (pay-to-play concept). In the past ten years, publishers have developed a new approach, which instead of selling entire game content at once tends to decompose the sale into several smaller transactions. The prices of these supplements are often calculated in the virtual currency that is considered to be the currency of video game, and not in one of convertible currencies, which creates additional confusion. The subject of the paper is to explain the essence of microtransactions as type of electronic payments created in the video games industry and to observe their role in the process of industry transformation. Keywords: microtransactions, freemium, mobile games, pay-to-win, virtual money * Teaching Assistant, University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Economics, [email protected] Vol. 14, № 3, 2017: 239-258 240 Nenad Tomić 1. Introduction The video game industry flourished in the ’80s of XX century, under the influence of the great innovations in iCt. with the change of the computer architecture an increase of processing power was achieved, while the size and price of the computers was reduced.

  • Exploring Merchants' Adoption of Mobile Payments
Exploring merchants’ adoption of mobile payments A qualitative study on Swedish merchants’ perspectives MING THOI Master of Science Thesis in Informatics Report no. 2016:064 University of Gothenburg Department of Applied Information Technology Gothenburg, Sweden, June 2016 Acknowledgments After completing this Master’s thesis, the author would like to thank all the involved people that have realized this study. Secondly, the author would like to thank his supervisor Jan Ljungberg for the guidance throughout the study with concrete feedback. Thirdly, the author would also like to thank his better half, Annika Bach for her Love, support and encouragements throughout this study. Finally, the author would like to state that it has been truly interesting to explore and investigate mobile payments within the Swedish market. Mobile payments from the Swedish merchants’ perspectives are yet an unexplored field that needs more attention, which also makes it a timely topic and enjoyable to investigate. Abstract People have increased their usage of mobile devices in many aspects of their daily lives, especially within mobile payments. Mobile payments are expected to pave the way for an emerging cashless society. Merchants are considered those that create the market for other stakeholders by offering mobile payment instruments and services. Thus, it is of importance to avoid the chicken-and-egg scenario, where merchants are reclusive and cautious to adopt mobile payments unless customers’ demands for it, and vice versa.

By providing insightful content, we aim to keep our readers updated with the latest dynamics of the payments industry, an industry that is continually evolving at a rapid pace. There is a lot of interest into what is new in (e)commerce payments, and the results of a Worldpay report show it clearly: overall, ecommerce is expected to surpass USD 4.6 trillion globally by 2022, with 140 online payment methods in use today. According to the report, e-wallets have gained a lot of popularity thanks to the seamless experience they provide. Online banking payments are also in the spotlight, as they are convenient for both consumers and merchants, while cash is still king at the POS. As more studies like this have appeared, it has become clear to us that an in-depth approach to the status of payment methods and innovations in the way people pay would be useful.
