Miller - Deputy Superintendent ii ......mowarevobrommematUVAINPIC FOREWORD LANGUAGE ARTS TOOLS has been compiled for theuse of teachers and ad- ministrators in the schools of Wayne County.It consists of annotated listings of materials available foruse in reading improvement programs. No claim is made that the list is complete;new companies seem to spawn overnight and older companies are vastly ex- panding their offerings in the field of reading. Anattempt has been made to supply all the necessary information about each itemexcept price, which was too flexible to be dealt with accurately. However, catalogs formost of the publishers, manufacturers and suppliers are on file at the Wayne County Intermediate Schools Professional Resources Center at the Wayne County Library, 33030 Van Born Road, Wayne, Michigan. The following categories have been used for the arrangement of materials: Books and Workbooks; Kits, Laboratories and Multi-Media Packages; Programmed Ma- terials; Newspapers and Magazines; Instrumentation; Films, Filmstrips, Transparencies, Slides and Recordings; Charts, Pictures, Flash Cards, Games and Devices; Evaluation; and Professional Books.Obviously there is a certain amount of overlap in these cate- gories.Some items are listed in more than,one category, in which case the annotation will probably appear only once. No attempt has been made to evaluate materials; the intent has been to bring all sorts of materials to the potential user's attention where they will be evaluated in terms of local need. Probably the most helpful section of the bibliography is that which deals with the appropriate use of each of the items included.Nine skill areas have been delineated: Pre-reading (but not limited to pre-school), Word Recognition, Comprehension, Critical Thinking, Locating Materials, Using Non-Verbal Reading Materials, Organizing Ma- terials, Improving Reading Rate, and Reading for Pleasure. Theseare not necessarily the "best" or most descriptive categories; use of the bibliography by teachers willun- doubtedly indicate further refinements in these listings.Hopefully the users of this section will submit their suggestions to us for use in Evture revisions. Along with the listing of skills are grade level designations, so that a teacher may find at a glance all the items in each section of the bibliography which could be used to help develop each of the skills at any grade level.Publishers were invited to check our annotations and place their materials in the appropriate section on the usage chart and most of themre- sponded. Imaginative teachers, however, may find that materials can be used in ways and at grade levels not indicated by the publishers. Again your cooperation is solicited in making this particular feature of the bibliography as helpful as possible by sharing with us your own experiences in using specific materials. A complete bask reading series, for example, which might contain as many as 50 individual titles, appeared as a single item.It be- came obvious lifer a while thatthere were a number cf textbeveks, not part of a series, which were deserving of mention in this sectime.Therefore, individual titles have also been listed, side by side with complete series. One of the most difficult problems in preparing this section was never resolved, namely: how to inslude delightful trade books which would enhance children's inde- pendent reading programs. Most books of this sort were not includedunless they were part of a series, but you are urged to make useof the many excellent trade books that are available today.Catalogs from many publishers of trade books are available at the Wayne County Professional Resources Center. It is hoped that the somewhat unorthodox bibliographic form will provehelpful rather than a hindrance.For the most port teachers refer to books by title (or even color!). Therefore, all the items are listed alphabeiically by title ratherthan by author. Again, for convenience sake, we have been somewhat cavalier withauthors' names, using only surnames.If use of the bibliography indicates that full names would be preferable, they will be included in future revisions. Both reading and interest levels are indicated for each entry. The first number (or pair of numbers) indicates the reading level, taken in most instances from the pub- lisher's advertising. The second number indicates the grade level for which thematerial is geared in terms of interest. I argue that the social critiques of these southern female short story writers have been overlooked because stereotypes rooted in the fantasy of the idealized southern woman has limited critical perceptions of these authors’ engagements with cultural or political issues, when in reality their short fiction helped to influence the shifting expectations of the mid-twentieth century South.

But the call is there, and we feel it whenever we look up at the star- studded heavens on a clear night. Moon Miners’ Manifesto’s purpose has been to help flush out, and then flesh out how we will establish a growing civilian beachhead on the Moon, Mars and beyond. Goda This dissertation investigates Nazi Germany’s diplomacy and intelligence- gathering in Argentina from 1933-1945. It does so from three perspectives. This study first explores the rivalries that characterized the bureaucracy in the Third Reich. It argues that those rivalries negatively affected Germany’s diplomatic position in Argentina. The actions of the AO in Argentina in the 1930s were indicative of this trend. This created a fear of fifth-column activity among Latin American governments with large German populations. Second, this study explores the rivalry between the Sicherheitsdienst (Security Service, SD) of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (Reich Security Main Office, RSHA) and Auswärtiges Amt (Foreign Ministry, AA). It argues that the rivalry between these two organizations in Argentina was part of a larger plan on the part of Amt VI, SS Foreign Intelligence to usurp the functions of the AA.
