DOST granted the first of several Niche Centers in the Region for Research and Development (NICER) to UPV as the Center for Mollusks Research, Development and Extension. The first workshop on Roadmapping of Research and Development and Commercialization Initiatives for Mollusks was held on January 7-10, 2019, covering topics on the current state of mollusk industry and research in the . • A collaboration between State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) from Region VI and Israel was proposed by UP Visayas Chancellor Ricardo Babaran, who is exploring engagements in the areas of fisheries and tourism. The meeting together with the different heads of SUCs and their representatives took place at the Pidlaoan Hall, College of Fisheries and Sciences, UP Visayas, Miagao last June 4, 2019.
