Bosnia and Herzegovina lies in the heart of southeast Europe. Perhaps what is most important for the visitor to know today, though, is that Bosnia and Her- zegovina is a stunningly beautiful country with a vast array of landscapes, cultures, traditions and people.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a long name for a country that measures just over 50,000 km2. Bosnia is the northern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, encompassing roughly 80% of the country; the other epony- mous region, the southern part, is Herzegovina. Bos- nia is an informal term for the whole country.

Bosnia has five main cities (Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tu- zla, Mostar and Zenica) and numerous smaller towns. In the course of recent decades the population un- derwent a decisive shift towards industrialization and urbanization, producing in the main cities a vibrant, sophisticated, and highly educated population. Some of the most successful firms in the former Yugoslavia were located in Bosnia-Herzegovina, while the Winter Olympics, held in Sarajevo in 1984, lifted Bosnia and

6 In the countryside, a more traditional rural lifestyle continues to exist. Bosnia is a country of exceptional natural beauty, with dramatic mountains and turquoise rivers, and striking contrasts between the green wooded hills of Central Bosnia, the bare limestone landscapes of Herzegovina and the fertile agricultural flatlands in the north. The official languages in Bosnia and Herze- govina are: Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian.

Though, they are very similar and in the time of Yugoslavia they were actually one language. By learning one of these languages, the other two are automatically learned too. A medieval town Hodidjed was located near today’s Sarajevo. However, the name of the city, derived from the Turkish words Saraj – palace and Ovasi – field, reveals that Sarajevo, in fact, has been founded by the Ottomans. It is believed that Sarajevo was founded in the mid-fifteenth century, as the centre of the Ottoman authorities, by the Turkish regent Isa-Beg Ishakovic.

Even though Sarajevo is a relatively small city in comparison to other European capitals, its name is known better than the names of some of the world’s biggest cities. The town is teeming with café’s that inevitably gravitate around the beautiful Una. It is more than worth a visit to Bihac or any of the towns that live off these emerald waters. It is a great place for a stop over if you’re on your way down to the Croatian coast or have visited the Plitvice National Park just across the border. Jajce The town is famous for its beautiful waterfall where the Pliva River meets the Vrbas River. Neraby is Pliva lake, which is also a popular destination for the local people and tourists.

Jajce fortress is another attraction that reminds us of the old times, same as Esma Sultanah’s mosque.

The “Pearl of the Adriatic” situated on the Dalmatian coast, became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13 th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthyuake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. Damaged again in the 1990s by armed conflict, it is now the focus of a major restoration programme co-ordinated by UNESCO.

Day 5: Budva Breakfast at the hotel. Going to explore Old town Budva, which is inside of the stone walls. Visit the old Entrance, Square of the poet, Square of the churches and beaches. As an option there is a boatride from Budva.

Day 6: Budva – Tirana – Ohrid Breakfast at the hotel. First traveling to Albania to visit Tirana. Explore Tirana, the capital city and visit Skender Bey square and Edhem Bey mosque. Proceding to Ohrid. Ohrid is Macedonia’s largest summer tourist destination and historical-cultural center as well.

Day 1: Transfer from airport to the hotel - OLD TOWN TOUR.

Day 2: Olympic mountains & spring of river Bosna After breakfast going to explore Olympic mountains Bjelasnica & Igman. Dis- cover mountain through walk. Enjoy the fresh air. Bjelasnica “Babin do” is the place where you can find many hotels and restaurants for coffee or tea, or just to relax.

Day 3: Bijambare cave and Trebevic Trip to Bijambare. The Bijambare area, famous for its caves, is located on the far north-eastern slopes of Ilijaš, a small town near Sarajevo. The caves located in pine forest are a great place for explorers and the sports and recreation centre is a great escape from the urban area. On the way back visit small mountain Trebevic. Enjoy the fresh air. The first amusement park in Bosnia and Herzegovina with alpine roller coaster is located on Trebevic. The main attraction of the amusement park is the alpine roller coaster. SARAJEVO ZLATIBOR Day 4: Sarajevo, Višegrad and Zlatibor After breakfast travel to Višegrad. Visit famous for the Unesco-listed ‘bridge on SJENICA the Drina’ immortalised in Ivo Andrić’s classic novel, Višegrad has parlayed this KOLAŠIN identity into a niche tourist industry by building Andrićgrad, a small but like- PODGORICA able mock-historical city core nominally celebrating the author. The surrounding landscapes of deep-cut river canyons are most impressive seen from a boat chug- BUDVA ging up the Drina from Serbia. KOTOR Day 5: Day at Mountain Zlatibor - option Sjenica Visit to the Nature Reservat Uvac protected nature area starts with boat ride on Uvac Lake from 100 meters high dam, the highest earth dam in Europe. With boats we are riding about two hours until we reach the meanders. Watching white griffon vultures during scenic ride. After cruising through meanders we are starting hiking to the view point from where actually you can see the meanders.

Day 6: Zlatibor - Kolašin - Podgorica After breakfast travel to Podgorica. Stop in Kolasin for lunch and explore Kolasin National park. Continiue to Podgorica. Overnight in Podgorica

Day 7: Podgorica and Skadar Lake Skadar Lake, which is a wild wonder waiting to be explored. Indescribable and in many ways unique, with the size of 391km2, it is the largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula and it is a crypt o depression, which means that in some parts the bottom of the lake is below sea level. Due to its geographic position and sub Mediterranean climate, it is one of the most important habitats of swamp birds in Europe, right after the river Danube delta. There are around 280 bird species on the lake, including the rare curly pelican, which became a trademark of the National Park. Territory of the lake is a witness to indescribable beauty with its overgrown coast, bays, capes and islands where numerous monasteries, churches and holy monuments are situated. This tour is perfect choice for discovering all natural beauties of NP Skadar Lake and to meet with traditional ways of life in this part of Montenegro. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 8: Budva - Kotor - Tivat Budva is a town in Montenegro on the Adriatic Sea. Part of the Budva Riviera, it’s known for sandy beaches and nightlife. Stone walls built by the Venetians surround the narrow streets of the medieval old town (Stari Grad). This historic district is home to a seaside citadel and religious sites such as the Church of Santa Maria in Punta, established in the 9th century.

Major tourist attractions are Old town Kotor and Perast, little baroque place near Kotor. Old town Kotor extraor- dinary city, located on the banks of Kotor Bay, has been included in the UNESCO world heritage list. For centuries this part of the word was intersection off different cultures that, luckily, left their significant traces visible in present times. CROATIA Day 5: Opatija – Istra After breakfast, 1:30 hours ride to Pula. Visit the most beautiful cities of the region – Pula, Rovinj and Porec. In Pula you can admire the 2000-year-old Roman Amphitheater, the Temple of Augustus and other architectural wonders from various epochs. Rovinj, is also known as the “Artists paradise”, is situated on a small peninsula and is probably the most romantic town in Istria. In Porec, the Byzantine Euphrasian Basilica stands out as a ‘must-see’ part of architecture. Back to Opatija, overnight.

Day 6: Visit museum Mimara, rest day shopping After breakfast departure to Zagreb. Visit museum Mimara. This is the diverse private art collection – Zagreb’s best – of Ante Topić Mimara, who donated over 3750 priceless objects to his native Zagreb (even though he spent much of his life in Salzburg, Austria). Housed in a neo-Renaissance former school building (1883), the collection spans a wide range of periods and regions. After visiting the museum, the rest day free for your activities or shopping.

Day 7: Day tour to Bled - Ljubljana (Slovenia) Early breakfast. A trip to Bled must be a part of any visit to Slovenia.
