CHS KNOCKOUT TRIPLES LAWN BOWLS Wallsend Campus entered a team into the CHS Super 16 Triples Lawn Bowls competition on the Monday 1 May at Lambton Bowling Club. Our lawn bowls team consisted of Lachlan Evans from Year 8, Daniel Hughes and Luca Weekes both from Year 10. Lachlan was our most experienced player and performed valiantly as skipper for the day, sharing his knowledge and expertise with Daniel and Luca, who both showed improvement in their games as the day progressed. The boys played Hunter Sports High, Toronto High and Belmont High in the round robin stage of competition. Although our triples team was defeated by more experienced teams in each match, they played with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Mrs Amanda Phillips Lawn Bowls Adviser

The girls played extremely well, keeping calm under pressure and winning 11 ‐ 3. There was some exceptional pitching by Olivia Moore and very skilful catching by Jessie Bakewell. Both girls put in a massive effort to pitch and catch for 5 games. The team consisted of Jessie Bakewell, Emily Drake, Zoe Franks, Jade Gallogly Sophie Henderson, Olivia Moore, Maddie McGuigan, Isabella Miller, Ella Moriarty and Ebony Woodcock. Thank you to our wonderful parent supporters at the game who were there to cheer the girls on. Mrs Karen White Softball Coach

The boys continued to play reverse doubles and another round of singles despite a convincing win by Great Lakes. All students showed excellent sportsmanship and great enjoyment for the game. U/14 & U/16 REGIONAL FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP The Regional Futsal Championships were held at Howzat Indoor Sports Centre. The U/16 Girls team went through the tournament undefeated and won the championship for the 3rd year in a row. The team had a few U/14 players that filled in for the senior team and did a fabulous job. U/16 Players Player was Isabelle Main and Coach’s Award went to Jayde Platford. The U/14 team also went through the group stages of the tournament undefeated. They played a very determined Newcastle High School in the final and were narrowly beaten. U/14 Players player was Eloise Metcalfe and the Coach’s Award went to Montana Quick. Both teams will go into the State Championships full of confidence. Mr Brenden Kelana Futsal Coach

U/15 BILL TURNER CUP SOCCER Our first round opponents were San Clemente, who are always a tough test, especially in the first round of the competition. Their team hosted a number of Newcastle Jets players, but we were confident we would be competitive. We matched it with them during the first half and were unlucky not to grab a few goals through the pace and skill of Ethan Talevski. As the second half wore on we started to fatigue and make some silly mistakes which cost us the game. We were eventually beaten 4 goals to 2. Players Player was Ethan Talevski and Coach’s Award went to Declan Jacobson. Mr Brenden Kelana Soccer Coach

U/14 & U/16 BOYS REGIONAL FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP The U/14 & U/16 boys futsal teams competed in a very competitive and tough competition which saw them pitted against heavyweights like and Merewether High School. The U/14 were unfortunately knocked out of the group stages, however one of our U/16 teams made it through to the semi‐finals, but were beaten in a close contest by Merewether High School. U/14 Players player was Noah Iles and Coach’s award went to Tom Tattersall. Mr Brenden Kelana Futsal Coach

NSW NETBALL SCHOOLS CUP Year 8 Netball Studies elective students participated in the NSW Netball Schools Cup Gala, at Charlestown Netball Courts on Thursday 18 May. The class formed two teams which worked together in class leading up to the event. Both teams played four games throughout the day. Although the teams compete in the non‐ competitive divisions, the opposing teams were very strong. We came away with one win across both teams, however the girls played extremely well displaying excellent sportsmanship and encouragement for their peers. Special mention to our umpires on the day, Ebony Woodcock and Jones. An enjoyable day for all involved. Miss Sophie Ray Netball Studies Teacher

U/13 RUGBY LEAGUE KNIGHTS KNOCKOUT The U/13 Wildcats Rugby League Team recently participated in the Knights Knockout Competition at Windale. It was the first hit out under the Wildcats banner for this young group of gentleman and they got off to a shaky start. In their first game, they went down 8 ‐ 0 to with some fundamental errors in their own half which cost the team field position. In the next game, the young Wildcats turned this around and had a convincing win over Newcastle High School 16 ‐ 4. They showed how well they could play in this game, in particular Majak Boc and Preston Conn. They then followed this performance with a grinding, come‐from‐behind victory over Dungog High School.

With one game to go against a strong San Clemente High School Team, unfortunately we could not match them and suffered a disappointing loss. We had mixed results for the day. There was a lot to like about the performance of the team and with a bit more training and time together playing, I believe the team will see a lot of success in future outings. Players Player for the day went to Preston Conn, who displayed great control and leadership from the middle. The Coach’s Award went to Jacob West for his continued effort throughout the day and outstanding defence. Mr Joshua Corby, Rugby League Coach

U/15 RUGBY LEAGUE KNIGHTS KNOCKOUT Our first game against St Pius, we had a nil all draw, where defence was at a premium, but a great game with end to end action. In our second game against Lambton High School, we went down two tries to one, 8 points to 4. This was a much improved attacking performance, but we were outshone by some classy players from Lambton. Game 3 against St Pauls of Booragul we went down 12 ‐ 4. The team made a great start and were hanging on to a 4 ‐ 4 score line for most of the match only to be over run in the last 5 minutes. With only 12 players available, fitness was always going to be a concern. Belmont High School forfeited game 4, so we WON! Coach’s Award went to Callan Levoi, who was outstanding all day, didn't whinge about playing short and ran hard all day. Players Player was Cooper Elliot. Mr Nathan Jones, Rugby League Coach

U/16 RUGBY LEAGUE KNIGHTS KNOCKOUT Congratulations to the U/16 Rugby League Team which successfully progressed through to the Knights Knockout Quarter and Semi Finals on Monday 26 June. YEAR 10 SPORTS STUDIES EVENT MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT COBURN CUP: On Friday 5 May, our Year 10 PASS Rugby League Studies Classes hosted the inaugural “Coburn Cup” as part of their Event Management assessment task. The sporting gala consisted of 100 students (50 boys and 50 girls) from Wallsend Campus competing against Lambton High School in teams of 10 over 5 sports (Soccer, Touch, Endzone, Volleyball and Dodgeball). It was a terrific event, which was well received by all students. Wallsend Campus was the eventual winner, however, most pleasing is that this event was so successful. The Coburn Cup will be a regular annual fixture on our sporting calendar. This event also played an important role in selecting students to trial for our Year 8 Intercollege squad. Congratulations to the Year 10 students for their marvellous commitment and efforts in organising and officiating the event. YEAR 7 SPORTING GALA DAY ‐ Year 10 General Sports Studies completed an Event Management Course during Term 1. Their task was to organise a Sport Gala for Year 7 which focused on participation and enjoyment. The class organised every detail of the afternoon, from organisation of sports, rotations, timing, point scores and placing Year 7 students into teams. As a class, they successfully designed a six‐rotation sporting gala with competitive and non‐competitive divisions. Despite the threat of rain, the event went ahead in ideal conditions. Year 7 student participation and enjoyment was high, and all Year 10 students rose to the occasion, fulfilling their duties to an exceptional standard. A great afternoon for all involved.
