Greetings to all Daughters, March 23-25, 2017!! These are the dates for our 112th Maryland State Conference, at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City. Mark your calendar. The State Conference Committee is working very hard to make this a conference you will remember. We will celebrate 125 years of the Maryland State Society with great speakers and the U.S. Army Band. Look in this Spinning Wheel for details! Some of the wonderful highlights of the past year were the Valley Forge trip combined with Founders’ Day; our Maryland Luncheon, held for the first time in 4 years; our National Defense lunch; and our fun Holiday party. Fall Forum Maryland Day at Valley Forge, Founders Day The State Board of Management was held in Easton on Saturday, September 17, 2016, followed by the Chairmen’s Information and Shopping Market. The evening before many Maryland daughters met for dinner in St. Michaels. 10 SPINNING WHEEL News From Our Chapters Carrollton Manor The Carrollton Manor Chapter held a Veterans Day Tribute for 28 veterans at Edenton Retirement Community. The program featured comments by special guest speaker Maryland State Delegate Kathy Afzali. Each Veteran received a personalized Certificate of Appreciation for his or her services and a Veterans Pin from the office of Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs, George W. Owings III. The residents who were recognized served in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. All 70 attendees received a U.S.flag. More than 60 guests attended, with many ladies dressed in early 20th century fashion. Each guest received a souvenir booklet listing chapter members and a summary of activities for the last 100 years.
