Hopton Court “ HOPTON COURT “ Hopton Court was everything we wanted for our wedding and more. “ David and June ABOUT HOPTON COURT Hopton Court sits discreetly on the edge of the beautiful hamlet of Hopton Wafers, between Ludlow and Kidderminster. Set in parkland, amidst 1800 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside, there are spectacular views from the house and gardens. The house dates from 1776 and is attributed to the architect John Nash, whilst Humphry Repton was responsible for laying out the beautiful grounds and parkland. Hopton Court is unique in its location and in the desire of the owners, Chris and Sarah Woodward, to make it a very special place for you to celebrate your wedding day. We offer a unique country house setting which is exclusively yours and we will tailor make your day to your individual requirements. HOPTON COURT WEDDINGS AT HOPTON COURT Hopton Court will be exclusively yours on your wedding day because we want you to feel completely at home at this beautiful Shropshire country house. With the help of our excellent caterers, we will help you to create the perfect wedding at Hopton Court and can offer advice and all sorts of interesting and unusual ideas to make your day really special. The spectacular conservatory, which holds up to 100 guests, is licensed for civil ceremonies. The Victorian Conservatory is planted with scented, flowering plants and shrubs and is situated in the rose garden. Drinks and canapés can be served on the lawn after the ceremony. Alternatively the Coach House is licensed for up to 60 guests. Alternatively, of course, you may decide to get married in a local Church and hold your reception at Hopton Court afterwards. We chose Hopton Court because we were looking for a venue that “ combined both elegance and country charm together with a real family feel. Hopton Court exceeded our expectations. “ Sarah HOPTON COURT RECEPTIONS If the weather if fine, your Drinks Reception and Photographs can be held in the Rose Garden, outside the Conservatory or if not, in our newly refurbished Coach House overlooking the pretty courtyard. If a marquee is required for your reception, we have two recommended companies who can supply stunning, fully equipped marquees to accommodate up to 120 guests. You have the choice of two sites for the marquee, one in the courtyard adjacent to the Coach House and the other overlooking the Conservatory, Rose Garden and lake. We offer a choice of caterers, which are approved by Hopton Court. They each offer menus including canapés, traditional 3-course wedding breakfasts, barbeques, pig roasts or a bowl food reception. We also also offer a good selection of sensibly priced quality wines. An evening party, with dancing to a band or DJ can be held in the marquee or Coach House, depending on numbers. The caterers can provide facilities and staff for an open or pay bar throughout the evening The decision to host our wedding at Hopton Court was, without “ doubt, the best we could have made. The grounds offering beautiful views with the lovely house as the backdrop and the conservatory ensured there was space and tranquillity. “ Cas and Ken HOPTON COURT BRIDAL SUITE AND GUEST ACCOMMODATION We offer luxurious accommodation, in complete privacy, at Hopton Court, in our Apartment within the main house, which sleeps up to four people in two double bedrooms. The self-contained Apartment has fabulous views reaching over parkland, pretty fields, an outstanding picturesque landscaped garden by Humphry Repton, with Clee Hill in the distance. The apartment is available to wedding parties for a 2-night stay from from Friday 4pm to Sunday 4pm inclusive. (Low season £320, Mid season £340, High season £360). Bennett) This project – the first in-depth analysis of clerical concubinage in medieval England – examines cultural perceptions of clerical sexual misbehavior as well as the lived experiences of priests, concubines, and their children. Although much has been written on the imposition of priestly celibacy during the Gregorian Reform and on its rejection during the Reformation, the history of clerical concubinage between these two watersheds has remained largely unstudied. My analysis is based primarily on archival records from Hereford, a diocese in the West Midlands that incorporated both English- and Welsh-speaking parishes and combines the quantitative analysis of documentary evidence with a close reading of pastoral and popular literature. Drawing on an episcopal visitation from 1397, the act books of the consistory court, and bishops’ registers, I argue that clerical concubinage occurred as frequently in England as elsewhere in late medieval Europe and that priests and their concubines were, to some extent, socially and culturally accepted in late medieval England.

    SHIFNAL CRIME Rural Watch – East Shropshire .Rural News from around the Patch A full and thorough investigation is underway following an armed robbery at a bank in Madeley, Telford this afternoon (Monday 20 March) The offence happened at approximately 3pm when a person, entered Lloyd's Bank on the High Street in Madeley. The individual produced what appeared to be a gun, although whether it was real or an imitation gun is unknown, and demanded money before leaving on foot. Nobody was injured in the incident and witnesses and staff have been provided initial support by the investigating officers. The suspect is described as medium build and approximately 5'10" tall. They were dressed all in dark clothing but believed to be wearing black and white trainers. The suspect was carrying a black holdall and they had their face covered during the offence. Superintendent Tom Harding said: "We understand that this crime will be very concerning to the local community and I would reassure you that such a crime is unusual for the Telford area. We will have additional patrols in the Madeley area for the next few days to offer support to the community and identify any further witnesses. I have allocated a significant number of officers to this investigation to ensure we identify and arrest the suspect as soon as possible. To assist us in this I would ask that, as this was a busy time of day in the centre of the town, that anyone who has seen anything suspicious in around the High-Street area this afternoon, or has any other information relating to this serious offence, please call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 411s of 20 March.

    National Non Domestic Rates RURAL SETTLEMENT LIST 2014 1 1. Background Legislation With effect from 1st April 1998, the Local Government Finance and Rating Act 1997 introduced a scheme of mandatory rate relief for certain kinds of hereditament situated in ‘rural settlements’. A ‘rural settlement’ is defined as a settlement that has a population of not more than 3,000 on 31st December immediately before the chargeable year in question. The Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (England) (Amendment) Order 2009 (S.I. 2009/3176) prescribes the following hereditaments as being eligible with effect from 1st April 2010:- Sole food shop within a rural settlement and has a RV of less than £8,500; Sole general store within a rural settlement and has a RV of less than £8,500; Sole post office within a rural settlement and has a RV of less than £8,500; Sole public house within a rural settlement and has a RV of less than £12,500; Sole petrol filling station within a rural settlement and has a RV of less than £12,500; Section 47 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 provides that a billing authority may grant discretionary relief for hereditaments to which mandatory relief applies, and additionally to any hereditament within a rural settlement which is used for purposes which are of benefit to the local community. Sections 42A and 42B of Schedule 1 of the Local Government and Rating Act 1997 dictate that each Billing Authority must prepare and maintain a Rural Settlement List, which is to identify any settlements which:- a) Are wholly or partly within the authority’s area; b) Appear to have a population of not more than 3,000 on 31st December immediately before the chargeable financial year in question; and c) Are, in that financial year, wholly or partly, within an area designated for the purpose.

This road is subject to a 5-yearly tree inspection programme which is being checked to see when it was last done and if there are any outstanding issues.

The grey line is the share obtained by Independent candidates while the purple line groups together the vote shares for all other parties. Rear cover: the top graph shows the percentage share of council seats for the main parties as well as those won by Independents and other parties. The lines take account of any by- election changes (but not those resulting from elected councillors switching party allegiance) as well as the transfers of seats during the main round of local election.
