Valuation of NFL Franchises Author: Sam Hill Advisor: Connel Fullenkamp Acknowledgement: Samuel Veraldi Honors thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Graduation with Distinction in Economics in Trinity College of Duke University Duke University Durham, North Carolina April 2010 1 Abstract This thesis will focus on the valuation of American professional sports teams, specifically teams in the National Football League (NFL). Its first goal is to analyze the growth rates in the prices paid for NFL teams throughout the history of the league. Second, it will analyze the determinants of franchise value, as represented by transactions involving NFL teams, using a simple ordinary-least-squares regression. It also creates a substantial data set that can provide a basis for future research. 2 Introduction This thesis will focus on the valuation of American professional sports teams, specifically teams in the National Football League (NFL). The finances of the NFL are unparalleled in all of professional sports. According to popular annual rankings published by Forbes Magazine (http://www.Forbes.com/2009/01/13/nfl-cowboys-yankees-biz-media- cx_tvr_0113values.html), NFL teams account for six of the world’s ten most valuable sports franchises, and the NFL is the only league in the world with an average team enterprise value of over $1 billion. In 2008, the combined revenue of the league’s 32 teams was approximately $7.6 billion, the majority of which came from the league’s television deals. Its other primary revenue sources include ticket sales, merchandise sales, and corporate sponsorships. The NFL is also known as the most popular professional sports league in the United States, and it has been at the forefront of innovation in the business of sports.

  • Le Roy Butler Biography
LE ROY BUTLER BIOGRAPHY LeRoy Butler is a former American football strong safety who played his entire career with the Green Bay Packers (1990-2001). Born on July 19, 1968, Butler spent his childhood in Jacksonville, Florida. His parents separated when he was a toddler, and his mother, Eunice, supported Butler and his four siblings by working first as a secretary and later as a nurse. The family lived in a small apartment in the crime-infested Blodgett Homes housing project on Jacksonville’s west side. As a child, Butler’s problems went beyond poverty and crime. He was born so pigeon-toed that doctors had to break bones in both of his feet when he was only eight months to correct the problem. Walking was a major challenge for Butler, who spent much of his early youth in a wheelchair. Between the ages of six and eight, he was had to wear leg braces. He spent much of his early childhood gazing out the window watching neighborhood children play kickball—something he could not even imagine doing. At the time, doctors predicted that Butler would be lucky if he ever walked normally. Certainly, the notion of becoming a professional athlete was in his foreseeable future. As fate would have it, when he was eight years old Butler discovered he no longer needed his leg braces— quite by accident. When his older sister, raced out of the apartment one day, she inadvertently knocked Butler out of his wheelchair, sending his leg braces flying as well. Picking himself up, Butler discovered that he could not only walk normally, but he could also run pretty well.

Says Sandy Grushow, president of 20th Century Fox Television, “Th at the network ordered a series off of eight minutes of fi lm is just testimony to how powerful those eight minutes were. Th ere are very few people in their early 20’s who have ever created a television series.”20 Family Guy made its debut on network television on January 31, 1999—right after Fox’s telecast of the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals contributed $109 million. The Cardinals purchased the land for the stadium for $18.5 million. Facility Website Twitter: @UOPXStadium UPDATE: Following the previous summer’s ruling from the Maricopa County Superior Court that the rental car tax was unconstitutional, the court has ruled the state must refund the rental car tax previously collected. The refunds could cost the State approximately $160 million. This would likely reduce the funding the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority receives from the State to use toward debt payments on the University of Phoenix Stadium. In June 2016, the University of Phoenix Stadium upgraded the sound system throughout the arena. "I’m (Not) A Girl: Animating Experiences of Girlhood in Bob’s Burgers." Journal of Popular Television, 7(1), 3-23. DOI 10.1386/jptv.7.1.3_1 Publisher Intellect Journal Journal of Popular Television Download date 27/09/2021 00:37:22 Item License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Link to Item http://hdl.handle.net/10034/621344 I’m (Not) A Girl: Animating Experiences of Girlhood in Bob’s Burgers Katie Barnett, University of Chester Abstract Discourses of girlhood increasingly acknowledge its mutability, with the ‘girl’ as a complex image that cannot adequately be conceptualized by age or biology alone. Likewise, theories of animation often foreground its disruptive potential. Taking an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses girlhood studies, animation studies, and screen studies, this article analyses the representation of the two main girl characters, Tina and Louise Belcher, in the animated sitcom Bob’s Burgers (2011–present). Taking this concept of mutability as its central focus, it argues that animation is an ideal medium for representing girlhood, given its disruptive potential and non-linear capacities, whereby characters are often frozen in time. With no commitment to aging its young female characters, Bob’s Burgers is instead able to construct a landscape of girlhood that allows for endless reversal, contradiction and overlap in the experiences of Tina and Louise, whose existence as animations reveals girlhood as a liminal space in which girls can be one thing and the other – gullible and intelligent, vulnerable and strong, sexual and innocent – without negating their multifarious experiences.
