Hewitt, Advisor The purpose of this case study was to explore the conversational repair responses of 3 adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to communication breakdowns that occurred naturally in conversations. Adolescents with ASD are at the threshold of entry into independent living in society where their ability to manage communication breakdowns is essential. Of equal interest to the purposes of this study was describing how individuals with ASD were similar or different from each other in their sources of communication breakdowns, types of clarification requests, and repair responses used. The study used an embedded multiple-case study design to identify the sources of breakdowns, types of clarification requests made by the listener, and the types of repair responses used. Language samples were elicited across two conversational contexts (an Adult-Client context and a Peer with ASD context). A compiled coding system based on coding systems in the existing literature, pilot study findings, and those that emerged from the data was used to analyze the language samples. Results showed that all 3 participants exhibited and repaired breakdowns. Although similarities existed between the 3 participants in the types of repair responses used, they differed from each other in the variety of repair strategies used to resolve the breakdowns.

Recently, INTERPOL has decided to forego its data collection efforts. This paper, based on a systematic and extensive literature review, will examine how criminologists and other social scientists have used INTERPOL data to examine criti- cal issues in the description and explanation of cross-national crime. It will end with a critical reflection on the contribution of INTERPOL data to our knowledge base, as well as the possibilities that exist for using other data sources to continue research in this area. INTRODUCTION Crime data from INTERPOL are the oldest dataset of cross-national indica- tors of crime maintained by an intergovernmental organization. Thanks to these data, criminologists have created a literature that aims to explain national as well as cross-national differences and trends in crime rates. Law enforcement officers may encounter art and artifacts in various ways, such as through seizure, unexpected finds, and planned recovery operations. Law enforcement officers have a duty to properly care for property, to include cultural property objects such as art and artifacts, while in their custody and control, but art and artifacts often require care beyond the routine handling generally afforded to common property items. This thesis will offer suggestions for the law enforcement officer on how to recognize art and artifacts in the field and how to subsequently handle and care for same. These suggestions are meant to be integrated into existing law enforcement policies and procedures so as to realistically account for the time, skill, and financial resources associated with law enforcement officers and their respective agencies, all the while maintaining adherence to generally accepted evidence collection practices.

(FMAB 107C) Course Description: Since it first appeared as a series of short animations on the Tracy Ullman Show (1987), The Simpsons has served as a running commentary on the lives and attitudes of the American people. Its subject matter has touched upon the fabric of American society regarding politics, religion, ethnic identity, disability, sexuality and gender-based issues. Also, this innovative program has delved into the realm of the personal; issues of family, employment, addiction, and death are familiar material found in the program’s narrative. Additionally, The Simpsons has spawned a series of animated programs (South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, Rick and Morty etc.) that have also been instrumental in this reflective look on the world in which we live. The abstraction of animation provides a safe emotional distance from these difficult topics and affords these programs a venue to reflect the true nature of modern American society. Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to provide the intellectual basis for a deeper understanding of The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, and Rick and Morty within the context of the culture that nurtured these animations. The student will, upon successful completion of this course: (1) recognize cultural references within these animations. (2) correlate narratives to the issues about society that are raised.

Not quite aghast, but definitely shocked. For one thing, Sterling has never been much of a reader.
