THE FUTURE OF TRANSLATION IN IRELAND

The Translation Studies Network of Ireland (TSNI) will host its first Annual Conference on 18 October 2019. The theme of the conference is 'The Future of Translation in Ireland'.

Translation has been practised on the island of Ireland for more than a thousand years. Successive phases of Irish history have seen translation play a crucial role in our cultural, political and economic development. Translation has been a key factor in the interaction over the centuries between the different languages spoken on the island. In recent decades, Translation Studies has gained a strong institutional presence in higher education in the and . There is a growing body of scholarship on translation being produced by researchers working in Ireland. This scholarship is enriched by the work of scholars across the globe who have taken an interest in the role translation has played in the development of culture and society in Ireland. This conference will explore the diversity of translation research on the island of Ireland and examine the scope for future research.

Proposals for papers in English or Irish are now invited from speakers. Topics could include, but are not limited to:

 History of Translation in Ireland  Translation and Migration in Ireland  Translation, Ireland and the Digital Future  Translation and Religion in Ireland  Translation and Irish Literary Modernism  Translation and Gender in Ireland  Translation and Children's Literature in Ireland  Translation and the City in Ireland  Screen translation in Ireland  Translation and the  Translation and Sign Language in Ireland  Translation and Literary Genre in Ireland (poetry/theatre/prose fiction)

The Translation Studies Network of Ireland (TSNI) was set up in 2018 by the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation. It is a network of colleagues from across the island of Ireland with an interest in translation studies and research.
