The city’s landmark is situated 119m above the city and can be seen from literally every corner. To reach the fortress, there’s either a steep walking-way or a funicular. Guided tours on the fortress show the princes’ rooms, the torture chamber, an old mechanic organ (“Salzburger Stier”), a look-out and much more. A visit of the trick fountains is definitely worth it. To entertain his guests, prince-archbishop Markus Sittikus built these special gardens. Funny trick fountains and a mechanic theater which is moved by water enchant the visitors. Be careful: you might get wet during the visit! At the entrance of the palace gardens sits the stone dog, favorite of all kids. The “Monatsschlösschen“ on the Hellbrunn mountain hosts a folklore museum which displays old customs from the Salzburg region. On the Hellbrunn mountain you can also find the “Steintheater” (stone theater), a stage in a huge cave, where some plays are still performed. The so called “Dwarves garden” (Zwerglgarten) with its crookbacked stone characters is located in the beautiful gardens of Mirabell Palace. The museum is located in the Mozart-family’s apartment and displays documents, paintings, and instruments. The famous exhibits include Mozart's child violin, his concert violin, his clavichord, the harpsichord, portraits and letters from the Mozart family. Not wheelchair accessible.
