The Sildajazz Festival is more than just a series of concerts: it is four days when the whole Norwegian town of Haugesund becomes a community that swings and where a unique exciting atmosphere is cre- ated. Both outstanding local and international artists perform at the festival and it offers you a diverse music program that includes jazz-and art-exhibitions, a sailing competition and jazz combined with trips to the neighbouring small islands, jazz in the “Seawarehouses”, one of the largest street parades there is with tap dancers leading 150 musicians from various parts of the world - in addition to about 180 jazz concerts and other events at clubs and concert halls with some 300 musicians taking part.

Every year in June there is a Viking Festival at , including a Viking Market; selling swords, jew- ellry, helmets and other Viking related articles: a theatre, concerts, historic walk and more. An annual exhibition of maritime traditions related to Haugesund maritime culture. Harbour days gath- ers all kinds off old wooden boats. Along the quay participating exhibitors; Craftsmen demonstrate hand- crafts from olden days connected to sea and shipping. Boat builders, ship models, old engines, and old stuff that is related to the historic maritime culture in the Haugesund region. The Worlds longest Herring table

The Chefs Association invite to the world’s longest Herring table (365 meters, 7.5 tons of herring and ac- cessories) in the pedestrian town center of Haugesund. Chefs serving free herring in all variants. People will be served herring, while music flows out of downtown. Children herring table: even kids can enjoy. Norway’s major festival for film and cinema.In 2012 1421 professionals from 29 nations visited Haugesund during the festival, where a total of 94 films were screened, including 22 films during New Nordic Films. 133 film productions were shown or presented in Haugesund in the course of nine days of film market and festival activity.

(Clipper Town Skudeneshavn – a 45 min drive from Haugesund) At the extreme southern tip of Karmøy, with lighthouses guiding ships into Skudefjorden and across the North Sea, lies the charm and olde- world flavour of Skudeneshavn, home of the sailing clippers. Founded on the incredible success of the early 19th Century herring harvests, the town grew at a startling rate. Ironman 70.3 Norway 2012 was the first official Ironman event in Scandinavia. The first ever IRON- MAN 70.3 Norway race was a very special event. A hot 1900 m swim in “Skeisvatnet”, both T1 and T2 transition on artificial surfaces, just 50 meters from the water. One of the worlds most beautiful and spectatcular 90k bike race along the coastline of . A running route that takes athletes through Haugesund city center 4 times before they cross the finish line at the quayside. An amaz- ing crowd of spectators to cheer you on all along the cycle track from Sveio in the north to the south Vormedal. An event and an atmosphere you rarely experience. Or like our female pros, Mary Beth Ellis, who won the womens race said: “ This was the best 70.3 event I have ever done”
