Description of Educational Program

Background and Context

Nithyananda Hindu University (NHU) was established by His Divine Holiness Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam to spread the rich spiritual knowledge and tradition that provides a Super-Conscious breakthrough for all beings. These teachings are based on the Vedas1, and Agamas2. The Vedas are the pure science. The Agamas are the applied science. These Hindu scriptures are direct revelations of the cosmic intelligence and deal with specialized knowledge, precise technical rules in a wide variety of areas that support conscious expansion for all human beings.

The Shaiva Agamas3 (Agamas that belong to Hindu Shaivite tradition) are a compendium of texts that cover various theoretical and practical aspects of life, worship, sciences, and understanding of the cosmos for Hindus who follow Shaivism. The origin and practice of Shaiva traditions goes back to Lord Paramashiva (the primordial Guru4). Although scholars provide supporting proofs to date the origin of Shaivism, it is well established that the practice pre-dated the recording. Twenty three Sarvagjnapeethas5 (the all-knowing seat) were established by Lord Paramashiva on planet Earth to establish the

super-science of Living Enlightenment in Nalanda, Taxila, Kanchipuram and 20 other locations. His Divine Holiness Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam is reviving this ancient authentic knowledge system through the NHU. NHU is the world’s largest Hindu university with the largest modern day assembled repositories of ancient sacred vedic texts - the Vedas and Agamas. Thus, followers of Paramashiva as initiated by His Divine Holiness Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam follow a well-established, ancient tradition even today.

Shastra Pramana

All courses offered by NHU are aligned to the Vedas and Agamas. Pramana can be translated as ‘means of knowledge’ and it pertains to the epistemology (investigating the source of knowledge by pure questioning) that is unique to Hindu traditions. Shastra Pramanas can be found in shastras recorded in varied languages such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Hindi and so on.

NHU strives to present the authentic references from the Shastras which are codified in verses. Each verse is densely packed with information regarding the cosmic truths, the method of practice to realize this truth, and the depth of information that opens while practicing the process. This is called as Shastra Pramana.

Structure of Courses

Adhi Shaiva tradition recognizes and venerates the possibility of the descent of Paramashiva’s energy in human form. The Shastras assure

that the possibility is available to every being when it is practiced in the right context. This simply has become modern day reality through initiation by the living Avatar6, His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Sri Nithyananda Paramasivam, and through the maintenance of the state and space of Oneness. In practice, these are also tied to the t attvas (core cosmic unit principles) of integrity, authenticity, responsibility, and enriching.

Thus, every course designed by NHU is open to every being, at any level of knowledge, practice or experience. The courses are based on the Shastra Pramana to enable continuous flowering of consciousness, and fully aligned to the final goal of enabling a lifestyle that is rooted in Pure Consciousness. To make the courses accessible, at NHU we often use simplified titles that resonate with a lay man. The alternate, generic names for our courses are used for transactional purposes and do not have any impact on the content, quality, or duration of the course offerings.

Course Description In this workshop the student experiences a transformation of their inner identity and gets established in the State of Nirvikalpa Samadhi - the highest samadhi state as per Hindu tradition. Understanding, experiencing all of the 25 states of consciousness and their possibilities is covered. The purpose of Sadashivoham is experiencing those highest possibilities, called the state of Turiya and Turiyatita, and the expressions of those states and powers. If you seek an answer to any one of the above questions, this course designed by Bhagavan Sri NIthyananda Paramashivam is for you. Sheaths or coverings in Sanskrit is called Koshas. The five koshas that

a human being carries are distinguished, their characteristics clarified and meditation techniques to heal and restore the connection with the causal layer happens during the course. Taitreya Upanishad second chapter Anandavalli beautifully explains this whole science. The five layers are physical layer, breathing layer, mental layer, cognition layer, and bliss layer. Removing all the incompletions, engrams, patterns one carries in these five layers, helping every one to completely integrate self, helping everyone to fulfill self, helping everyone to experience the self and finally the ability to manifest what they want is the goal of this certificate course.

For the one who has become a Yogi, in the beginning the body becomes a Divine body (divya deha), becomes radiant and effulgent (tejasvi), healthy and emits a divine fragrance, divya gandha. His whole heart space becomes śunya, the infinite space of oneness where the Pure consciousness exists and there is no ‘other’.

Course Description Good Health is not just an absence of disease, it is positive well-being. Arogya Spurana is an intense course on the integrated science of body, mind and spirit. It is an opportunity to understand that our body is not just a bio-mechanism but one that has its roots in deep consciousness and intelligence. The course helps participants to understand and address the negative impact of the imbalance of the elemental energies in the body as identified by Vedic scriptures.

It is a health and healing course that takes the learner through meditation and healing practices, besides creating a new mental setup attuned towards living a positive life. Techniques include those taken from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika - one of the schools of Yoga as per Hinduism.

The Lord said: Through the practice of yoga one can attain beneficent accomplishments; he can attain release (moksa); he can ascend to the state of ineffable bliss. It is to be known that there are six means or limbs of yoga. Now listen to those various subservient parts of yogic practice. Pratyāhāra, dhyāna, prānāyāma, dhāraṇa, āsana, and samādhi are the six constituents of yoga system.

Course Description Hinduism states that negative patterns in thought affects health. The course identifies and wipes out the negative thought patterns that make one powerless before pain and suffering, and helps learners reach a space of completion with themselves and life. Removing these negativities results in a flowering of intense health. In this course, learners participate in sacred Vaidyeshwara homa.

Vaidyeshwara Homa is the Vedic ritual which restores the natural

healthy state of being. Vaidyeshwara Homa invokes the presence and grace of Lord Vaidyanatha Swamy who is Lord Shiva Himself. Vaidya means Doctor. Eeshwara or Natha means the Lord. Vaidyanatha Swamy is the King of all medicines and doctors. As the saying – “Doctor stitches; God heals” – rightly says, Lord Vaidyanatha Swamy is the Cosmic healer. In the Vaidyeshwara Homa, Lord Shiva in the form of Sri Vaidyanatha Swamy is invoked in the Homa fire. The Pradhana Ahuti is offered along with the chanting of Vaidyanatha Ashtakam – hymns in praise of Vaidyanatha Swami. Then the ahutis(oblations) are offered with the mula mantra.

Prana and apana, having moved swiftly in a distinct direction, by the wish of kundalini, that great goddess stretches (elongates herself) and becomes the supreme place of pilgrimage of both manifest and unmanifest.

Course Description Inner Awakening is a program to awaken your inner potential powers. In Vedic tradition, we call that as Kundalini Shakti. There is a tremendous possibility, tremendous power, extraordinary energy, in every one of us. Awakening that power, that possibility, that intelligence, that energy, that consciousness, is Inner Awakening. This workshop equips one to become master of their own life, and a source of power in the life of others. One should fix his mind on the external space, bāhya-ākāśa, which is eternal, without support, void, all-pervading, devoid of limitation. By this practice, he will be absorbed beyond the etheric space, nirākāśa.

Course Description Nithyanandam is designed to be an intense opportunity for exploring the Truth for the sincere seeker. It is an ‘enlightenment intensive’ course giving the torch to discover the truths of life and thus to understand clearly who you are.

The fulfillment of the basic needs naturally leads you to the self-actualization needs. Nithyanandam is the answer to this quest. Nithyanandam is a unique and intense meditation course wherein we work directly upon the cancerous tumors of ego in each of us, making us intensely aware and getting rid of the various forms of ego deeply hidden in us.

The participants continuously go through various activities like discourse and meditation, and ritual. Nithyanandam is an exchange, where the learner gets to drop their illusions and pick up reality. Course Description Hinduism states it is a human being's inherent nature is to renounce thoughts. Every thought is like a bubble that arises and bursts and the next thought comes up. As long as this natural process of renouncing the thoughts is allowed to happen, things are perfectly alright. This is our true nature. This is the meditative state we ought to be in. But the problem starts because we start connecting our thoughts and start making a shaft of either pleasure or pain with it.

Our Consciousness suffers because of this process by which we connect our thoughts. We become a slave to our mind and cling on to it thinking that it is a reality. We do much damage to our Being because of this virtual reality that we create with our mind. When this happens, we fall completely out of sync with our true meditative nature; we move completely away from being pure Consciousness.

The Dhyana Spurana Program is a course designed to help people center themselves in their Being and re-connect with their true meditative nature. It is a program to liberate from the clutches of the

mind, from emotions, which are again just a by-product of our mind. It is aimed at breaking our mythical mental setup of pain and pleasure and creating a space in us for meditation to flower.

That kundalini of Sambhu(Shiva) is eternally pure. But it is of inert nature. As such, it does not exist in an identical relationship with Shiva(as the Shivashakti is). It remains as the assumptive power of Shiva (parigraha shakti, that is, taken hold of when needed, left out when not needed). But in Shivashakti, there exists identical relationship with the Ultimate Lord. Kundalini shakti does exist in such relationship with Shiva for the reason that it is a material cause only, just as the clay which is the material cause for the pot does not exist in identical relationship with the potter.

Course Description This is an advanced-level course. This course is open only to those who have already completed the Ananda Spurana Program. Participants work on all their seven bodies (as defined in the Vedagamas).

The course includes an intensive guided death meditation process apart from worksheets that analyze their inner space. It gives a deep clarity into the repetitive nature of our birth and death helping one to transcend the temporary and realize our true divine nature.

One who is with one-pointed meditation of such non-dual unity, advaita bhāvana, gets himself established within his own self, always and everywhere. Course Description This course introduces participants to the three bodies (physical, subtle and causal), and helps them harness the energies of each for optimal daily living. It helps us understand how the three bodies interact with each other and has an effect on our daily life.

Setting the three bodies in tune gives one an easy way to fall into a space of deep meditation and Oneness, thus reaching their full potential and establishing them in a space of Powerfulness - which is an end result spoken of in Hindu Scriptures.

Course Description Nirahara Samyama means exploring and discovering body's possibility of thriving without having any solid food.

"Every time your pattern demands for solid food against your powerful cognition, it can be handled. Remind yourself, I have decided that I am Paramashiva. Let me be integrated to my Guruvak. Every time you apply powerful cognition and living it, you are living in Enlightened ecosystem." - Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam (Satsang 4th March, 2019).

Upon transcending the need for solid food, one of the most basic patterns that roots a person to the physical world is broken, helping him to transcend the body and realize his divinity.

Course Description Samyama means centering yourself on one purpose and discovering the new possibilities in your life. When a wild river is flowing, building embankment is the first step, then putting a dam is the second step. Taking the water out just through a concentrated way through only one hole is the third step. That concentrated powerful water can produce current; it can move the turbines,

Same way three things need to be done to the mind. Building the embankment to the river is called "Prathyahara", putting a dam is called "Dharana", taking it out through one small hole is "Dhyana", when the turbine moves and the electricity comes out is called "Samadhi", then the enlightenment energy happens in us. All these four Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi. All these four put together is Samyama.

Course Description The utility value of Shivoham is that one can apply this science – “I AM SHIVA” – in every step of life to become more responsible, more authentic, more integrated and more enriching. The Shivoham process revealed by Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam was the most mystical one yet. It is all about how the universe is made up of lines and sounds. Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam explains that people’s bio memory and muscle memory are made of visualizations and verbalizations, and chaos in these are the cause for all suffering.

Through the process, Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam aligns everyone’s bio- and muscle-memory to the fundamental lines and sounds of the cosmos. Using His energy, He surgically removes the chaotic lines and sounds from everyone – leaving the participants in the space of Shivoham.

The participants sit in the shape of special yantras (fundamental shapes that represent fundamental energies in the cosmos) and Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam chants powerful mantras

(fundamental sounds with specific powers of the cosmos) for the participants to experience the powerful space of Shivoham.

The southern Ayana is a night, and the northern a day of the gods. Twelve thousand divine years, each composed of (three hundred and sixty) such days, constitute the period of the four Yugas, or ages. They are thus distributed: the Krita age has four thousand divine years; the Tretā three thousand; the Dvāpara two thousand; and the Kali age one thousand: so those acquainted with antiquity have declared. Just as there is no extinction to Lord Śiva who is Whole, All-pervasive and the Great Soul (mahātma), even so there is no extinction to the Guru who is endowed with all divine, pure attributes of Śiva and who imparts the knowledge of the Āgamas (vidyāpradana). The spiritual benefit which results from such imparting is the attainment of śivatva (the state, space, power and being of Paramashiva, which manifests in all-knowing and all-doing), and the attainment of lordship on par with Īśvara. Course Description When you chant your mantra, visualize that it is rotating around the throat in a circulating rotating way. See, normally you utter in linear way - this is japa. Ajapa means, the sound and mantra should be moving in circular way. When you visualize that, your mouth is locked and you will feel immediately the mild vibration of that mantra.

When chanting, wear an energized rudraksha bead exactly on the Vishuddhi chakra, in the hollow of the throat. This is the place where the air is getting converted into sound. If you wear energized rudraksha there, constantly every word coming out will have the coat of that mantra. It becomes like the ajapa japa. Maybe we can give a new name - eN-Chanting! Course Description In Pancha Tapas Yoga, the practitioner sits inside a circle of fire and enters into meditation. Pancha Tapas Yoga gets its name from pancha agni or five fires, because participants sit in the circle with fire in the four directions (North, South, East & West) and the sun overhead forming the fifth fire.

There is a general misunderstanding that Pancha Tapas Yoga is performed as a prayaschita (repentance) for wrong actions. No! Having noticed that certain rituals are being done in disagreeable and contrary way, the king who remains unmindful of such misdeeds going on in the temple would meet with decay and gradual destruction. There is no place for dispute or discussion in this regard. Therefore the king should arrange for the rituals to be fulfilled by a foremost Acharya who hails from the lineage of Adisaivas affiliated to five gocaras, who has deep knowledge in the Saivagamas, who has extensively studied them, who is expert in performing the rituals. If he does so, his entire country would flourish well in all respects. O, the foremost among the Sages!, the Guru or the supreme Acharya who is the foremost expert in the Saiva Sastras should be solicited for the performance of such rituals. Snapana and such other powerful rituals should be performed only by such Acharya. Special pujas should be performed only him in order to attain the desired fruits.

If the Linga, images, vimana, halls(mantapas) , gopura or other such structures, shrines situated in the enclosures, enclosures, assembly-hall(asthana mantapa) and stages are struck by the lightning, such occurrence indicates that the king would be afflicted with severe diseases. The Guru should perform the santi-homa in nine different ways in an orderly way according to the procedure set forth for such performance. This procedure is applicable to the Linga, pedestal or the images. Then he should identify the five vedic brhama mantras(isanassarva vidyanam and others) in association with thirty-eight kalas. Having ideated the vidya deha in this way, the Guru should invoke the presence of Lord Siva in that vidya deha.

Course Description This process of awakening is known in Sanskrit as praana pratishtha, literally meaning, the establishing of life-breath. A qualified Hindu priest may perform ‘mantra pratishtha’, invoking the deity’s energy through sacred chants and proper ceremonies and inviting it to enter into the idol. But significantly, only an enlightened being is authorized

to perform praana pratishtha - which is the direct infusion of life-force into matter. When an enlightened being performs praana pratishtha on an idol he not only brings it to life but transmits to it his own enlightened state of being. Such an idol, now rightly called a deity becomes an independent intelligence, a direct vehicle of the Divine cosmic energy capable of answering prayers healing ailments and granting boons.

Course Description On the auspicious occasion of Bharani Deepam, in the early morning muhurta, the sacred lamp was lit in the Nithyanandeshwara Hindu Temple and then in all the other parts of the beautiful Nithyananda Peetam, Bengaluru Aadheenam. His Holiness Paramahamsa Sri Nithyananda Swami lit the lamps, and festively kicked off yet another reason for celebration.

Then in the evening of Karthikai Deepam, the flame on the summit of the sacred Arunachala Hill in Thiruvannamalai was lit. His Holiness witnessed the lighting of the lamp on Arunachula Hill via live telecast and then proceeded to light the ceremonial lamp in NIthyanandeshwara Sadashiva Temple. As part of Karthigai Deepam, all lamps lit during the day were collected and returned back to the Garbha Mandir where they are merged into one, giant lamp.
