Also known as Vale Tudo, No Holds Barred (NHB), Cage Fighting, Ultimate Fighting, Pride Fighting, Sougo Kakutogi Focus Various Hardness Full contact Olympic sport No Mixed martial arts (MMA), popularly known as cage fighting or ultimate fighting is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of other combat sports, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of both striking as well as grappling techniques, both while standing and while on the ground. Such competitions allow fighters of different backgrounds to compete. The roots of modern mixed martial arts can be traced back to various mixed style contests that took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s. The combat sport of Vale Tudo that had developed in Brazil from the 1920s was brought to the United States by the Gracie family in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Professional MMA events had also been held in Japan by Shooto starting back in 1989. In due course the more dangerous Vale Tudo style bouts of the early UFCs were made safer with the implementation of additional rules, leading to the popular regulated form of MMA seen today. Originally promoted as a competition with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations,

They love it so much, that over the course of the last three years, they have built a unique brand in the combat sports arena with the website HyeFighters, and now Legio, a recently launched clothing line. The fruits of the two men’s labor is simple, yet greater when the average boxing and mixed martial arts fan realizes what they have created: a brotherhood among Armenian fighters and fans. Araradian and Haftvani have quickly become the symbol for combat sports outside of the ring and cage within the Armenian community with HyeFighters, a website dedicated to promoting and highlighting the careers of Armenian combats men in the professional fields of boxing, MMA, muay thai and kickboxing. Now, the two have partnered their previous brainchild into the launch of the T- shirt line Legio. Legio, meaning “legion” in Latin, is based off of “Legio Prima Armeniaca,” an Armenian regime in the Roman Legion from the second and third century AD. The shirt’s are modern and stylish, but remain true to Armenian roots. Araradian notes that the symbol Legio is using for the “O” is the newsletter signup symbol of the Legio Prima Armeniaca. E-MAIL “We wanted to keep the Armenian theme, but also wanted it to crossover to the mainstream non- Armenian market,” says Araradian.

The dark gray and blue waters flow toward me and past, but only if I pause to look. I rarely ever do. It disrupts the routine. I part the blinds and reach for the curtain rods, hung low beneath an eight-foot ceiling, and check that my hand wraps are drying. I run my fingers up and down, flattening the fabric. I set and reset them along the rod so they’ll hang down perfectly; so they’ll hang flat and creaseless; so the day’s efforts will evaporate. I move to the washing machine.
