WE WANT TO LIVE. TO WANT WE WE WANT TO LIVE. TO WANT WE Mei Hua is a young hen who was struck on the head and left for dead in a "Certified Humane" farm. Sprawled on the floor, unable to stand, excrement rained down on her in the crowded shed. She survived only by desperately feeding on the filth that covered her. By the time Everywhere (DxE) investigators found her, she was dehydrated and starved, dazed from head trauma, and -- after days of unimaginable terror and pain -- about to die. Being rescued DxE gave her a chance at life. The first vet we visited was sure that Mei would die. She could barely lift her head or open her eyes. But Mei fought on, and, through weeks of hand-feeding and intensive care, she slowly came back. Though the trauma she experienced has left her slower than other hens, Mei has learned to stand and walk again. She enjoys the sun on her face, and, for the first time, has a close friend: Dave, her protective rooster companion. Mei has become the beautiful flower (the "Mei Hua") she was meant to be. At the vet The industry that exploits animals for food does not want you to hear Mei's story, or the stories of the other animals enslaved and killed to fuel the industry's engine of violence. DxE's investigation found the most horrifying conditions imaginable, including mutilated and dismembered animals, animals trapped in piles of feces, and animals who had gone insane from the stress of confinement. This -- and not an advertiser's fantasy -- is how our animal- based "food" gets to the store, even from so-called "humane" farms. Safe and happy

Sephy, another rescued hen who, like Mei, was starving and dehydrated, was found with her feet clutching the corpse of her sister. DxE also found a bloody, dismembered part of a wing in a cage where individuals like Mei and Sephy struggle as they are taken to their deaths. All birds displayed clear indications of emotional distress. Investigators around the world have found the same misery in "humane" places of enslavement.

Speciesism is an injustice like any other prejudice. The animals who we exploit and kill for food are feeling beings who want to live and be free, just like we do, and just like the dogs and cats who we love at home. The idea that we can "humanely" use and kill other feeling beings for our tradition is nothing but a marketing ploy. It's time we stop trying to find the right way to do the wrong thing. It's time to stop the violence. Every animal is someone to respect, not something to use. WHAT YOU CAN DO Direct Action Everywhere organizes monthly international protests against animal killers. Email us at [email protected] or check www.directactioneverywhere.com for the next day of action. You can also contact the company (or local media) about your concern over their violence to animals. If you buy plant-based food there, let the management know that you do not support their violent and deceptive ("humanewashing") practices. And you can distribute media from our campaign in your community -- our campaigns are a platform for you to discuss . Share our actions, and tell your friends and family why you believe all animals deserve life, liberty and happiness. SPEAK UP FOR THE SILENCED AND CHANGE THE WORLD WITH US.
