RESOLUTION CONDEMNING REPUBLICAN BILLIONAIRE’S TRUMPIAN ATTACKS ON DEMOCRATIC PARTY-ENDORSED CANDIDATES; AND CALLING ON ALL SAN FRANCISCO DEMOCRATS TO RENOUNCE REPUBLICAN-LED EFFORT TO BUY SAN FRANCISCO ELECTION

Sponsor: David Campos

WHEREAS he may not be well known to most San Francisco Democrats, Bill Oberndorf is a billionaire with a long history of supporting the Republican Party and right wing extremists; he recently donated a million dollars to keep Senate Republican Leader Mitch MConnell in power; he made this donation as McConnel is trying to rush the appointment of an anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice extremist to the Supreme Court; he also has deep ties to Betsy DeVos and the effort to destroy public schools and use our tax dollars for private education; Oberndorff in fact succeeded Devos as Chair of the American Federation for Children, the nation’s leading advocate for privatizing public education;

WHEREAS Oberndorf is now the ringleader of a shadowy group of rich white men who think their money should be more powerful than our votes in san Francisco; this shadowy group created a Political Action Committee, under the name “Neighbors for a Better SF”, which has amassed more than $3 million in just two weeks, much of it in donations of $300,000 or more; and

WHEREAS this shadowy group just unleashed a series of Trump-like nasty attack ads on official Democratic Party-endorsed candidates; only in 2020 would Republicans try to take San Francisco; their attacks have been targeted against candidates endorsed by the San Francisco Democratic Party, including Supervisor Dean Preston in District 5, Vilaska Nguyen in District 7 (#2 endorsed candidate), and John Avalos in District 11.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee hereby condemns the Trump-like attacks on Democrat-endorsed candidates in Districts 5, 7, and 11 by Republican billionaire Bill Oberndorff who hides behind the shadow organization “Neighbors for a Better SF”; and

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee calls upon all San Francisco Democrats to reject and denounce the Trump-like attacks; and calls upon all Democratic candidates to ask that the shadow organization “Neighbors for a Better SF” cease and desist its attacks in Districts 5, 7, and 11 or any other supervisor district.

PROPOUNDED BY: Chair David Campos

Adopted: (Date______) By the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee
