March 2019 Excellence in a Caring Community Excellence in a caring community March 2019 Upcoming Events It has been a really exciting few months for Hobart High School and for Clarion Academy Trust. Pakefield Tuesday 23 April School Open High School joined the Trust at the start of April, giving us far greater opportunities for our students, staff and Tuesday 23 April Art Exhibition up (TBC) communities. We look forward to taking advantage of these over the coming months and years. We have been closing the Library just for the club to improve their miniatures painting skills. We have had new members come and learn how to build and paint their miniatures too! Warhammer Club runs Wednesday lunchtimes and also Wednesday after school until World Book Day, 2019 was celebrated by a number of 4.45pm. students and staff and the events included a 'bake a book' competition, a photographic competition, a Reading Group- Year 8 literature table quiz and the opportunity to dress up as a character from a novel. World Book Day marked the launch of Hobart High School Honesty Library. This is a system whereby students and staff can bring in books they do not wish to keep and swap them for other books which have been donated and voluntary donations to go to charity. Carnegie Medal Award for Children’s Books 2019 We are shadowing the Carnegie Medal Award this year and are involving Year 8 and 9. Many students and staff have already signed up to take part and with eight shortlisted books to get through it’s going to be a busy few months. Our Campaigns & Equality Society are also taking part by reading for the Amnesty CILIP Honour Award, which is a commendation for one book from the shortlist that most distinctively illuminate, uphold or celebrates human rights. The winners will be announced on 18 June where we will have a little book party to celebrate. www.hobart.org.uk Year 9 Vs Attleborough It was a very close contest and a half time the huge crowd was rewarded with a thrilling 4 - 4 score line thanks to some interesting defending. In the second half both teams organised themselves and the game took on a more traditional feel. Hobart scored 2 more goals to take a 6 - 4 lead before Framingham Earl hit back to make the score 6 - 5 which created a tense final 5 minutes, but Hobart defended well to see the game out and win. There was a hat-trick for Will Stanley and 30 yard free kick that Bobby Bonsell scored. Apart from being a hugely entertaining game both sets of players were a real credit to their respective schools. On Wednesday evening (27 March) Hobart went to Archbishop Sancroft in Harleston (although 2 of our students thought it was Archbishop of Sainsbury’s). This was a very different game; after 8 minutes they were in complete control and ahead 4 - 0. High Schools’ Choir Festival More than 300 students from City of Norwich School, Flegg High School, Hethersett Old Hall School, Notre Dame High School, Wymondham College, Thetford Grammar School, Thorpe St Andrew High School and the Norwich School performed in the annual Norfolk High Schools' Choir Festival Concert at St Andrew's Hall, Norwich on Thursday 6 November 2014. Conducted by Andrew Morley, the programme included Fauré’s Requiem op 48, Walton Crown Imperial and Zadok the Priest. Ian Cooper, Assistant Head of Norfolk County Council’s Music Service, which organises the event, said: “The festival has been running for a number of years and the pupils really enjoy it. “It’s not something that all of the schools can do on their own and having the orchestral accompaniment gives them a unique opportunity to come together and sing together in a large scale concert at St Andrew’s Hall.” Norfolk County Youth Orchestra Concert at West Road Cambridge with Irena Josifoska NCYO’s first concert of the season was at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge and we were delighted to be joined by the talented young Serbian Cellist ‘Irena Josifoska’ (whom we met during the Triorca project) to play the Elgar cello concerto as part of an all English programme. Minutes 2.1 The minutes of the meeting held on 19 September 2013 were received. A query was raised in relation to the accuracy of the figure showing a 30% vacancy rate of school governors, when an email had suggested that this was at 22%. It was agreed that the accurate figure would be circulated with the minutes. The minutes were signed as an accurate record. 3. Declarations of Interest 3.1 There were no declarations of interest. 4.
