The Art Deco building was constructed between 1932 and 1937. It is commonly said that Hitler had ordered against the bombing of Senate House, because he wanted to use it as his Headquarters in London, on account of its fascistic architectural style. The building did make an appropriate appearance in the film, Batman Begins, as the heart of corruption in Gotham City, and its brutalist exterior is said to have been the model for the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four.
