Dear Sir/Madam: I would like to draw your attention to the pro- democracy movement in Hong Kong, a former British colony, and to see k your support to formulate an ordinance similar to the Global Magni tsky Act (GMA), as well as to urge the Australian Government to take more proactive actions in safeguarding the human rights and freedom of those who are living under the repression of tyrannical regimes. I understand most of the people only care their status of democracy and freedom in their homelands. They may not feel connected when com ing to the other people’s outside their countries. Yet, what happens in Hong Kong and Xinjiang do not stay in there only. Globalization and the rise of mainland China would not allow anyone of the world t o have a special shield against the sharp power of the Communist reg ime in China. Nowadays, your rights to freedom of expression promise d by the constitution of your own country may be jeopardized once th e Chinese Government does not like something you said or did. The Co mmunist regime will try every mean to retaliate, especially by econo mic pressure, in view of forcing everybody to bow to them. The case of Mr. Daryl Morey (General Manager of Houston Rockets of National B asketball Association (NBA in the United States), of Mr.Victor Mallet with the Financial Times and of Arsenal football star player Mesut Ozil are the notable examples. More importantly, the painful lesson of Yalta Conference of 1945, th e annexation of Poland by the Soviet Union and the formation of “Iro n Curtain” in the Eastern Europe taught us that we should stay tough to the Communist regimes and leave no rooms for them to play tricks in expanding their influence and control on other people who pursue democracy and freedom. Otherwise, the result is catastrophic. The C ommunist regime in China is no better than the Soviet Union. Hongkon gers always say “Hong Kong’s Today, the World’s Tomorrow” because we are fully aware of what the domino effect would be if we were defea ted on the frontlines of the global battle of liberty and democracy. That’s why we go all out to fight against tyrannical China even tho ugh we know how ruthless the Chinese regime is; how high the stakes are and how cruel the vengeance of the Communist regime in China wou ld be. As a matter of fact, China have flexed her claws and muscles to Aust ralia when most of Australians are still not quite aware of it. The death of Mr. Nick Zhao who was chosen to be installed in the Austra lian Parliament as a Chinese agent and the case of Mr. Wang Liqiang are the wake- up call to Australians. More chillingly, Malcolm Turnbull, former Prime Minister of Australia, acknowledged publicly that he had been stalked by people who appeared to be Chinese agents - in some cases when he was with his family. In addition, Drew Pavlou , 20-year- old arts student at the University of Queensland and an organizer of pro-democracy movement, was bombarded by China’s consul- general in Brisbane (Xu Jie). I couldn't agree more with John Blaxland of the Australian National University. He warned that China wanted to "gain influences over dec isions about the further involvement of the United States, about fur ther protestations to Chinese actions in the South China, in the Sou th Pacific, in Taiwan." More disturbing issue is that we see there is the rise of Chi- nazism (i.e. Chinese Nazism). Generally speaking, the main themes of Nazism include : 1. A vision of annihilation of all enemies of specific group of pe ople (e.g. Aryan Volks). 2. To destroy any opposition to a regime by either outright terro r or all prevading fear of possible repression. 3. Justice is no longer recognized as objective but completely sub ordinated to the alleged needs and the interest of specific grou p of people. Unfortunately, the afore- mentioned phenomenon, orchestrated by the Chinese government, are ha ppening in Hong Kong now. As we know, the Nazi deliberately and re gularly referred Jews as cockroaches and pests in view of dehumanizi ng the Jews and justifying their evil purpose of annihilation in the late 1930s. Recently, both Xinhua News Agency (an official news ag ency of the Chinese Government) and Hong Kong Police Force referred Hong Kong protesters as cockroaches, just like what the Nazi did in the past. I believe everybody who knows the painful history of World War II sh ould stay alert and take action to stop it without hesitation. Besides the spread of hatred, the Chinese government is also trying every mean to go after those Hongkongers who refuse to bow down to t yranny by putting pressure on some large enterprises such Cathay Pac ific Airways under Swire Group (a renowned British- funded business group), Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Li mited (HSBC), the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTR), Televisio n Broadcasts Limited (TVB), Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), etc in order to make those Hongkongers out of work and face financial pr essure. The horrifying examples include : 1. Cathay Pacific Airways and Cathay Dragon sacked several employee s (including pilots, ground service employees, even flight atten dant union leader),based on their pro- democracy comments posted on social media after the Chinese Civi l Aviation Administration criticized Cathay Pacific for "posing looming dangers to air safety" and ordered it to give identity i nformation on its crew members on flights that would pass throug h mainland airspace. 2. The Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTR) announced to close d own stations “without prior notice” if violent protests occur at its stations, just hours after People's Daily (i.e. Chinese sta te media) criticised the company for being too lenient on demons trators. 3. A group of so called pro- Beijing and Hong Kong government people holding the national fl ag of mainland China were shouting and beating journalists outsi de Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), a local radio and televis ion station, on 24 Aug 2019 because of RTHK's impartial news rep orts on the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong. While the Chinese government is spreading the "white terror" in Hong Kong, its puppet government in Hong Kong tries to silent the pro- democracy Hongkongers through a large scale of arrestment (nearly 7000 people arrested) by Hong Kong Police Force and making rioting c harges (10- year prison term) by the hands of the Department of Justice on doze ns of pro-democracy protesters. The above- mentioned cases show that the ghost of Nazism is coming back in a ev en more evil way because Chi- nazism is the hybrid of Nazism and the dark side of the Chinese Cult ural Revolution from 1966 to 1976 (e.g. encouraging two fractions of people to battle against each other in the street; creating terror and destroying the trust among people through mutual recrimination, mutual supervision and whistle-blowing). Hence, I plead for more solid measures to be taken by the Australian Government in an effort to stopping the growth of Chi- nazism and to preventing the tragedy the Jews went through in World War II from happening again. Let's formulate the Magnisky Act as so on as possible ! Thank you for your attention ! Yours sincerely, LAU King Hong, Lawrence Hongkonger/Graduate of Australian Catholic University.
