• EAZA A&G TAG members meet twice per year (mid-year meetings, EAZA annual meeting)

• next EAZA A&G TAG meeting will be held 27. – 29. April 2016, at Dvur Kralove, Czech Rep. EAZA Antelope & Giraffe TAG

• work of the programs is based on the content of the 'EAZA Population Management Manual‘

• established a new reporting system for SG leaders • aims: • make their work easier and • give a better insight in the functioning of the programs • created a template for the presentation format for species programs to ensure consistency across all the programs

• established a new reporting format for EEP coordinators and ESB keepers to the SG leaders • this new format makes reporting and follow-up easier and guarantee that coordinators and SGs leader reporting will be in sufficient detail • SG leaders only need to add short overall conclusion/comments to the coordinator’s reports they gathered and send to the TAG chairs

• future aim is to get a report from the SG leaders twice a year, ahead of the meetings EAZA Antelope & Giraffe TAG

EEP Evaluations

• EEP evaluations conducted on a regular basis

QPA’s

• all species were analyzed (thanks to Laurie Bingaman Lackey) and reviewed by Kristine Schad

Best Practice Guidelines

• we need to get an overview of husbandry guidelines and what date they were produced • based on this we will decide on further actions • combining different species in one Best Practice Guideline could be one of the options

Education

• the ‘education component’ in our TAG is one of the fields we want and need to do more about; be it an ‘education coordinator’ or liaise with the education committee. But we need to be clearer of what we expect to happen in this field. The chair of the education committee (Sarah Thomas) will be contacted for advice. EAZA Antelope & Giraffe TAG

Regional Collection Plan (RCP)

• producing an ‘EAZA Population Overview Report’ in ZIMS was completed • to have this organized by SG leaders in the future probably makes the most sense • BUT: we have to watch the workload, e.g. the Savannah sub-group is huge already; we are very well aware of this (!) and it will be necessary to find ways to get the workload shared among more people

• the draft of the ‘RCP decision tree’ was finalized • it has been forwarded to the SG leaders to be tested on examples • SG leaders run all their species through the decision tree and give feedback

• the RCP document will follow the basic structure as outlined by EAZA

• in the near future every antelope species within EAZA will/should at least be monitored by person (Mon-P) EAZA Antelope & Giraffe TAG

Regional Collection Plan (RCP)

• Challenges: how to incorporate Future EAZA Population Management Structure; considering the IUCN guidelines philosophy; select programs with and without conservation role; define the roles and goals

• AIMs: to finalize a RCP draft for discussion during a mid-year meeting 2016; final editing and finalized collection plan is to be published and presented during EAZA conference 2016 EAZA Antelope & Giraffe TAG

Projects

• several projects have been and still are initiated or supported by institutions, which are represented in our TAG

Conservation Database (Merel Zimmemann)

• an overview of conservation projects which are currently registered in the EAZA Conservation Database and are relevant for the Antelope and Giraffe TAG can be found under: www.eazaconservation.org

• first tab includes projects for which contributions in 2014 (or later) are registered • the second tab includes all projects which are relevant for the TAG

• she has been working with a student to enter the information from the majority of the projects and reintroduction research (thank you Merel !), but not all details are always available

• but we need to enter more of missing data! EAZA Antelope & Giraffe TAG
