  • FIDE Trainers Committee V22.1.2005
FIDE Training! Don’t miss the action! by International Master Jovan Petronic Chairman, FIDE Computer & Internet Chess Committee In 1998 FIDE formed a powerful Committee comprising of leading chess trainers around the chess globe. Accordingly, it was named the FIDE Trainers Committee, and below, I will try to summarize the immense useful information for the readers, current major chess training activities and appeals of the Committee, etc. Among their main tasks in the period 1998-2002 were FIDE licensing of chess trainers and the recognition of these by the International Olympic Committee, benefiting in the long run, to all chess federations, trainers and their students. The proven benefits of playing and studying chess have led to countries, such as Slovenia, introducing chess into their compulsory school curiccullum! The ASEAN Chess Academy, headed by FIDE Vice President, FM, IA & IO - Ignatius Leong, has organized from November 7th to 14th 2003 - a Training Course under the auspices of FIDE and the International Olympic Committee! IM Nikola Karaklajic from Serbia & Montenegro provided the training. The syllabus was targeted for middle and lower levels. At the time, the ASEAN Chess Academy had a syllabus for 200 lessons of 90 minutes each! I am personally proud of having completed such a Course in Singapore. You may view the official Certificate I received here. Another Trainers’ Course was conducted by FIDE and the Asean Chess Academy from 12th to 17th December 2004! Extensive testing was done, here is the list of the candidates who had passed the FIDE Trainer high criteria! The main lecturer was FIDE Senior Trainer Israel Gelfer.

  • Chess Festival
Boris Gelfand’s Remarkable Comeback Yochanan Afek reports back from the star-studded Netanya International Chess Festival A big International Festival was organised in the coastal Israeli city of Netanya by the Israeli Chess Federation and the local municipality, supported by the generosity of businessman Roman Abramovich, likely best known to the readers as the owner of Chelsea Football Club. It has been quite a while since Netanya last hosted a strong international chess event, but the city has a long and respectable tradition of grandmaster tournaments. They were initially part of the popular Schach-Kait (Chess & Holiday) festival. Over the years various master tournaments were held as well as many editions of a grandmaster crown group, whose winners included the world- class icons Bobby Fischer (1968), Sammy Reshevsky (1969), Lubomir Kavalek (1971 and 1973), and Jan Timman (1975), as well as local heroes Yair Kraidman (1964) and Moshe Czerniak (1965). Played in the VIP room of the city’s Ilya Smirin might be in his fifties, but still produces plenty of attacking and exciting games. football stadium and consisting of two major sections, this year’s edition of the Netanya International Festival was both the biggest beaten in just 25 moves by Tamir Nabaty, 66 g5! • Sports News Roundup Sept 20
Sports News Roundup Sept 20 For Chess lovers Leinier Dominguez tied Friday with Israeli, Maxim Rodshtein, and the St. Petersburg team won in the sixth round of the European Cup chess clubs, held in Bilbao, Spain. Dominguez (2 thousand 7 hundred and 55 Elo points) played with white pieces, and negotiated the split of point with Rodshtein after 103 moves of a Caro-Kann defense. The Cuban player defended the second board of the Russian club, and beat Beer Sheva of Israel 4.5- 1.5. For the Russian squad, there were wins for Sergei Movsesian, Maxim Matlakov and Ildar Khairullin, while Peter Svidler and Zahar Efimenko made draws. Turning to Basketball The Cuban women's basketball team, won in extra time 69-66 against their Canadian counterparts, in preparation for the World Basketball Championship, a clash which took place at the Lobete de Logrono municipal sport center, Spain. The Cubans, American champions in 2013, dominated the first quarter 19-7, but fell in the remaining three, with scorecards of 9-15,19-20 and 11-16. At the end of the 40 minutes of play there was a tie at 68 points. In the five additional minutes the Cubans dominated 11-8 to get a final score of 69-68. The best scorers for Cuba were Yamara Amargo, with 18 points, followed by Leidis Oquendo y Oyanaisis Gelis, with 15 and 11 points, respectively. The Cuban coach Alberto Zabala used in this challenge the 12 players who will represent the country in the World Cup in Turkey, which starts on Saturday 27th in the Turkish cities of Ankara and Istanbul.

Photo: Georgios Souleidis / chess24 Deadlocks and escapes Despite Kramnik's imposing play against Topalov on board one, Bulgaria actually took the lead in their match versus Russia, man in form Valentin Iotov torpedoed heavy favorite Sergei Karjakin with the black pieces on board three. But the decision in the battle of the ex-world champions went to Kramnik, who won a nice game over his rival to even things up. Ian Nepomniachtchi could not make an impression on GM Krasimir Rusev in the last game to finish, and the Russians were held to a draw for the second day in a row. By GM Jonathan Tisdall The duel between teams with perfect Olympiad outrated on every board, and Georgia moved up records, Azerbaijan-Serbia, also looked set to end the table by beating Belgium by the same margin. in a deadlock after GM Milos Perunovic pulled Serbia even by beating former Azerbaijan number Qatar continues to have a fine event, the 57th one Teimour Radjabov on board two. English anchor Matthew Sadler was held to a colleague, and the 2-2 draw means that all teams draw for the first time.

  • Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2014
Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2014 Monday 27 January - Friday 6 February 2014 Round 6 Report: 3 February by John Saunders CHUCKY THE KING-MAKER Finally we have a sole leader – and it's Vassily Ivanchuk, the man who won the 2011 Gibraltar Masters with a record-breaking score of 9/10. Will he do it again? He's a very volatile player as we saw at the Candidates' tournament in London in the spring of 2013, where he ruined game after game because of poor clock handling, but produced his top performance in the final round when it scarcely mattered. It mattered to Magnus Carlsen, though; had Vassily not produced his best form at that moment to defeat Vladimir Kramnik, Magnus Carlsen would not be world champion now and the 2013 title match would have been contested by Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik. You could call him 'Chucky the Kingmaker'. But of course I'm getting ahead of myself as usual and there are still four rounds to go. No fewer than 12 players are breathing down Ivanchuk's neck, half a point behind. The numbers one, two and four seeds – Mickey Adams, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Nikita Vitiugov are amongst them – and the others are Gata Kamsky, Paco Vallejo Pons, Pentala Harikrishna, Richard Rapport, Maxim Rodshtein, Aleksey Dreev, Surya Ganguly, Wei Yi and Eric Hansen. The women's leader is still Tan Zhongyi of China – she's on 4½ and behind her on 4 are her fellow countrywomen Guo Qi and Zhao Xue, plus Lela Javakhishvili and Bela Khotenashvili of Georgia, Natalia Pogonina, Victoria Cmilyte, Elisabeth Paehtz, Natalia Zhukova, Batkhuyag Munguntuul, Sarah Hoolt and Hoang Thanh Trang.

(Adults are minimally affected.) Junior New Grades, by and large, have increased significantly at the younger end of the age range and decreased at the upper end. One effect is a dramatic reduction in the number of negative grades (always published as 0) among children of primary school age. • Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2014
Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2014 Monday 27 January - Friday 6 February 2014 Round 4 Report: 1 February by John Saunders RODSHTEIN, LI CHAO B AND MARECO LEAD The leader board at the Tradewise Gibraltar Masters, played at the Caleta Hotel, was whittled down from ten to three by the end of round four on 31 January. The three leaders with 4/4 are Maxim Rodshtein (Israel), Li Chao B (China) and Sandro Mareco (Argentina), who are the 13th, 14th and 30th highest rated players in the tournament respectively. The leading female competitors are Jovana Vojinovic (Serbia), Tan Zhongyi (China), Zhu Chen (Qatar), Viktorija Cmilyte (Lithuania), Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine), Guo Qi (China), Batkhuyag Munguntuul (Mongolia), Zhansaya Abdumalik (Kazakhstan) and Marie Sebag (France), a point back on 3/4. There are some remarkable things about the leader board: one is the fact that as many as ten countries are represented, with only one country having more than one representative (China, with three); two, that major world powers Russia, India and USA are as yet unrepresented; and, three, there is only one player from western Europe amongst them. There are clear signs that the centre of gravity of chess is moving further into Asia. Of course, these are early days in the tournament and by the end it is quite possible that the traditional power bases of chess may have reasserted themselves. But interesting nonetheless: I suppose the thing that it demonstrates beyond question is that the popularity of this ancient game has never been higher: it stretches right across the globe. Sandro Mareco is a new name on me.

  • Spiele Biel International Chess Festival
2010 Spiele Biel International Chess Festival Spiele Maxime Vachier-Lagrave Frankreich, 19 Jahre Elo: 2723 Weltrangliste: 22. Junioren-Weltrangliste: 3. Nationale Rangliste: 1.
