London has become a happy hunting ground for Kramnik. Not only has the former World Champion been a regular at the London Chess Classic, winning the 2011 edition, and runner-up twice (behind Magnus Carlsen, the World No.1, on both occasions), in 2009 and 2012, but in 2000, London was also the venue for his historic world title win over Garry Kasparov. This festival-like championship consisted of five competitions, and attracted numerous young chess players all over Europe. Two hundred players from 23 national federations took part in the competition, in 12 different categories, Girls and Boys separately. 1 NL AUGUST 2015 EUROPEAN CHESS UNION After the introductory speech from the Chief Arbiter Petar Katanic Vujic, participants were greeted by the president of the Serbia Chess Federation Miroslav Kopanja, who eventually officially opened the competition. The Championship started with Rapid Individual competition, which was held 1-2 August. 16 best players from all 12 categories: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18, Boys and Girls separately, played the Superfinal, and competed for the absolute best young rapid chess player in Europe. The Superfinal was played in the knock-out format, and after 8 rounds, WIM Laura Unuk (SLO 2019) and IM Benjamin Gledura (HUN 2416) became the winners of European Youth Rapid Superfinals. Superfinal Results The event continued with the European Youth Team Championship in Rapid chess, which took part 3-4 August. The Championship was held in three categories: U10, U14 and U18, and the teams were composed of 4 players: 3 boys + 1 girl. The tournament was played according to the Swiss System with time control was 10 minutes + 5 seconds per player.

Don’t miss the action! by International Master Jovan Petronic Chairman, FIDE Computer & Internet Chess Committee In 1998 FIDE formed a powerful Committee comprising of leading chess trainers around the chess globe. Accordingly, it was named the FIDE Trainers Committee, and below, I will try to summarize the immense useful information for the readers, current major chess training activities and appeals of the Committee, etc. Among their main tasks in the period 1998-2002 were FIDE licensing of chess trainers and the recognition of these by the International Olympic Committee, benefiting in the long run, to all chess federations, trainers and their students. The proven benefits of playing and studying chess have led to countries, such as Slovenia, introducing chess into their compulsory school curiccullum! The ASEAN Chess Academy, headed by FIDE Vice President, FM, IA & IO - Ignatius Leong, has organized from November 7th to 14th 2003 - a Training Course under the auspices of FIDE and the International Olympic Committee! IM Nikola Karaklajic from Serbia & Montenegro provided the training. The syllabus was targeted for middle and lower levels. At the time, the ASEAN Chess Academy had a syllabus for 200 lessons of 90 minutes each! I am personally proud of having completed such a Course in Singapore.
