    AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Jessica Anderson for the degree of Master of Arts in Applied Anthropology presented on October 28, 2016. Title: What Says Your Heart: Community, Learning, and Education in a Nahua Indigenous Village. Abstract approved: ______________________________________________________ Fina Carpena-Mendez The purpose of this thesis is to understand the experiences that Nahua children, in rural Mexico, have as they attend schools that are primarily influenced by formal Western education in relation to their own ways of learning and knowing. This research took place over the course of three months within a Nahua indigenous community. I completed fieldwork in both the local elementary school and within the community through participant observation and semi- structured interviews with children, parents, and teachers. What I found was that the ways in which the community constructed childhood, knowledge, and learning differed significantly in what they experienced within the classroom. This in turn effected the relationships that were built between the school and the community and the student’s ability to succeed and have meaningful and supportive educational experiences. The experiences that they have are in turn effected by global, national, and local political and economic trends such as the implementation of neoliberalism, and it subsequent effect on educational policies for rural communities in Mexico. This ultimately leads to an education that is colonial in nature, despite efforts of including bilingual intercultural education programs, as the system seeks to colonize the bodies and minds of these students. Thus, it is my conclusion that both community and school must work together in order to create education programs that decolonize this process through the inclusion of programs that re-center their local language, culture, and learning practices.

Från att ha börjat som en ”bedroom producer” till att spela sin musik på scener världen över har han blivit en legend inom den elektroniska dansmusiken. Men vilka byggstenar och tekniker använder han sig av? Syftet med denna uppsats är att ta reda på hörbara kännetecken i Avicii’s musik och få en bättre förståelse för hur en framgångsrik producent skapar och bygger upp sin musik, både musikaliskt och produktionsmässigt. Avicii’s produktioner är speciellt intressanta eftersom de tenderar att innehålla både elektroniska och akustiska element. I undersökningen används musikanalys som metod där fyra av hans produktioner har analyserats med hjälp av bl.a. ljudhändelse- beskrivningar och detaljerade analyser av olika musikaliska och produktionstekniska egenskaper. Detta har gett ett resultat som visar på att det finns flera likheter mellan de olika produktionerna i bl.a.

Can Feminism Get in “Formation”? Community of Scholars March 24, 2017 Presented by Bwann Gwann Room 3-092 What is Feminism? • As defined by Merriam- Webster, Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. • The belief that women have been treated different by society. Types of Feminism •Radical Feminism • Most radical feminists believe the traditional familial roles is vehemently sexist and should be rejected as a whole. •Socialist Feminism • Sees the oppression of women as identical to Marxist theory about exploitation, oppression and labor. Socialist Feminists believed that Prostitution, childcare, domestic works were ways women were exploited by patriarchal society •Cultural Feminism • Encourages traditional feminine behavior over masculine behavior. •Liberal Feminism • Focused on the removal of political and legal forms of discrimination (voter rights, reproductive rights, salary equity for men and women) A Historical Perspective (1700’s) • Women in the 1700’s were fed up with the conditions they faced prior to the French revolution.

THE STORY OF HUR: A MEMOIR A Thesis Presented to the Graduate School of Clemson University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts English by Hwi Eun Hur May 2020 Accepted by: Dr. Nic Brown, Committee Chair Dr. Will Stockton Dr. Matt Hooley ABSTRACT The primary content of this creative nonfiction thesis includes a collection of three essays of a memoir to be called: The Story of Hur. The three essays are titled: ​ ​ “Between a Memory and a Dream,” “Immigrant Churches,” and “With Brother.” Following these essays, a critical essay-- “Writing about ‘Hur’”--explores the various styles and authorial choices of creative nonfiction genre writers along with their influences in the writing style of the respective essays.
